Ummm, 30 teams, you dont see players getting 200 points a season, goalie equipment was (frank)ing piece of crap back then, it was alot easier to score goals. - FLYERSROCK!
I do believe Teemu had his big season when there were 24 teams. And there was only really 8 years separating Teemu's best years to Jari's best years. And goalie equipment in the late 80's wasn't as crap as people think.
As for players getting 200 points....only one player ever did, another was close, but like I said, that other was fighting for a scoring title as an old man on one hip. |

Or maybe because of the training and conditioning that the players go through nowadays the skill level of all the players is a lot closer than it used to be. Goalie equipment is not the only thing that got better either, composite sticks allow for much faster and harder shots than wood.
And maybe if Gretzky was playing in his prime in the NHL today he would still get 200 points, especially with all the new penalties benefiting the skill players. |

Sellane didn`t score on his own in his rookie yr. he has Tkucuk as his left winger, and Zhamnov who was good, and Housley and two other offensive defensman feeding him the puck right on his stick at close to full speed on the fly.
Nobody compares to Hously when it come to the breakout pass. - yaktalksback
I'll give you Housley being a factor, but are you sure Zhamanov and Tkachuk influenced that 92/93 season?

Brace yourself. Here comes a stampede of young Buffalo thoroughbreds!
Here come the Edmonton Oilers of The East! The Oilers wish they had Buffalo's depth and D and goaltending. NHL suits and scouts are admittedly drooling all over themselves right now at Darcy Regier's cache of sleek, sophisticated, high powered, lethal weapons.

i honestly cant see that happening. The goalies are way too good nowadays.
Gretzky could hit 150 if he played a full season, 150-175, no higher.
It really isn't even comparable. Today's NHL is so much tougher. Teams have much more depth, and the goalies are superior to 25 years or later ago. |

I don't disagree with what you're saying, and there's no way we'll ever know what Gretzky could've done in this era. But in all my years, there has never been a player I hated more, or feared more than Wayne. Mario was close, but Wayne would just ruin you if you weren't careful. The Boston meltdown has nothing, and I mean nothing on what Wayne did to us in 93.
As for goalies I'd still take Roy over any goalie today. |

i would too for Roy. But im talking about 25-35 years ago lol. Like if u put the best goalie from back in those days, in his prime into nowadays, he'd be probably not even top 10 in the NHL. |

I sometimes wonder if Wayne might've had another Hart Trophy or Art Ross Trophy in him if not for the Gary Suter hit from behind. Guy was still a PPG player into his late 30s...... |

Dude, this is going to age yourself a bit but the best goalie 25 years ago was Roy lol.
Vezina Trophy Winner 1988–89 Patrick Roy Montreal Canadiens 1
I think Burke (size, look what he's done with Smith) Hextal (too good with the poke check and intimidating), Lindberg (ahead of his time), Fuhr (agile), Vernon (won cups in the 90s), Moog would've all been successful in todays NHL. Guys like Pang, Bester, Hanlon, Froese not so much.
I think Burke in his prime would've had the best chance of that group to be top 10 because of his size and the equipment on him would've been huge.

I think Roy was the best goalie of all time. I know people will argue Brodeur because of his numbers but you can't argue that New jersey system help him out...IMO quite a bit. |
