Hard to label a player injury prone when he has missed 5 games in 4 years. And when his latest injury happened while playing Golf.
- MJL

... wouldn't that support the whole injury-prone argument?

Has he missed a game yet because of it? And until we know how he shattered his club it's an accident since it's not a common thing to happen on a golf course in the normal sense of a round.

I don't mind Giroux going to the Olympics as long as he comes back healthy. Separate issue the NHL channel is replaying the 2010 Flyers vs Boston game 7 tonight.

i like watching olympic hockey

but giroux is proving to be injury prone and the flyers are my first priority

- -davies-

They were all pretty freak injuries. Crosby slashed his wrists with intention to mess him up. He was a victim of one of Simmer's less memorable rounds of leap frog. A broken golf club sliced him up good. I dont think any of these things necessarily make him injury prone, or at least I dont think they show that he is easily injured.

Btw, does anyone know if Jsaq submitted a blog to Ek? I read that blog he wrote recently on (insert forgotten website name), and he's a pretty good writer. It'd be good for the Flyers to get another (more) regular blogger. Bill is awesome, but Pistachio only writes (what seems like) biannually, and judging by his twitter, the guy seems more interested in wine than hockey.

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Giroux, Flyers' Unlikeliest All-Star/Ashbee Winner

I saw Giroux play during his first preseason game against the Islanders in London, Ontario. The only thing impressive about Giroux that game was when he made a block with his skate in the first period. The game ended up being 4-0 for the Flyers. Carter, Richards, Lupul and Knuble all being goal scorers that evening. There is no reason why Giroux couldn't stand out that night in a game where all the major players shined without trying. Steve Downie looked good. Luca Sbisa looked outstanding. No go for Giroux though. It's something I'm not even sure can be explained because later that season when Giroux earned a roster spot, he quickly became our best player, especially in six games against the Pens during the playoffs.

I went to this golf summer camp when I was a kid. Ended up smoking another kid in the head with a 9 iron.

He (like an idiot), ran up to get his ball just on my down-swing.

I can laugh because he is fine, but the sound of club hitting skull I will always remember.

I was at that game! They had a line of Upshall - Carter - Knuble and they just kept feeding the puck to Carter until he scored. He could have had a hat trick that night but instead he finished the night with just one goal. Which is kind of how I will remember his career as a Flyer (coulda had a hatty but instead only had one or none).

A lot of hate for the Olympics.

Maybe its an American thing (no offense intended), but its actually a pretty exciting thing for most countries, and their hockey elite.

Sure its different, but its the best of the best, and provides some great hockey to watch.

I hope Giroux goes, and it helps him grow into a more complete player.

I love the Olympics and would like to see more international competition Anything that brings the best players competing is interesting to me regardless of the sport.

Did someone really call Giroux injury prone after having missed 5 games over the course of his first 4 full seasons? That means he played 98% of the possible games he could have.

Beyond that, their is no such thing as injury prone. When an element of luck is involved with injuries I am not sure how you can say a specific player has a chance to get hurt more then another. People break down at different rates, sure. Certain injuries have degenerative effects..

Im guessing the same person blames Giroux's last concussion to his being injury prone vs the random chain of events that lead to Simmonds hitting him in the head .

Many would consider Gagne prone to injury and he's just coming off a healthy season. Now all he has to do is put his game together. I think Gagne can be much better.

there are very few posts here, one could quote me instead of saying "this person"

playing through injuries does not mean they didn't exist.

you all sure seem to enjoy a lot of conjecture about what i think...

not sure why this would get people so agitated, but i guess it should come as no surprise in this thread. i think he's had a lot of little injuries, and it's a fact he has come into both this season and the last with injuries. i have concerns about that.

if you don't, good for you guys
