Definitely a good team, but I see them struggling out the gate...they (especially Chara) looked totally gassed in the finals...Chara isn't getting younger, I see them having a slow start...combined with a slightly compressed Olympic schedule, and the players on that team going to the Olympics....

I said 50/50....at best....and stand by that. I like the Leafs...I just think you guys went from cellar dwellers to moving TOOOO fast on Clarkson when only success was making playoffs in shortened year. Leafs will be in a dog-fight for last spot or two IF things go REAL well. I would put NYR, Boston, Pittsburg, Detroit MILES ahead of them....Washington, Hapless-habs, Ottawa slightly ahead of them...that leaves them, Tampa, Isles, Devils, , Canes....all scrambling...as I see it...Leafs MIGHT be one of 8-10 teams trying to get one of those last 2-3 spots. The season will tell. but color me SHOCKED if Leafs can finish any better than 7-8th this year...

Ottawa will struggle - Caps have to ride OV and who knows with that clown - I think if Leafs start year with Kadri and Franson they glide into the playoffs easily.

hard to argue with your picks though. could easily Mtl or Toronto bumped out by NYI. and Columbus will be a handful if Bryzgalov is for real. East is gonna be a dogfight beyond Boston and Pittsburgh.

based on what? they're finally healthy, and they replaced Alfredsson with Bobby Ryan-huge upgrade there. even if their goaltending is 75% of what it was last year, they're a lock for the playoffs.

Isles while improved, I dont find that they improved more than the other teams...status quo for me. Columbus I give a big MEH too...possibly scratching for 8th with 2 others.

I wouldnt say a Huge upgrade, of course Aflredson is trending down as he is 40, but he was their best player in the playoffs. They were almost identical in g/a/p last season

I am going into the start of the season with some optimism for the first time in a while. Outside Pitt, Bos, I don't really see any other teams in the East being that much better than the Leafs. Det has experience...NYR could make a splash if the new coach can make them gel, but I think every team has as many question marks as the Leafs.

I don't see Philly as being any better than last year considering, IMO, that their D and goalie aren't very good. I don't see Mason having a good time behind that defense and Emery is good but I feel he will have a year kind of like Gigueres last year in Toronto.
