Kadri, as you said, has even less playing time than Subban had. Even struggled the first two times he got called up.

Signing him long term now might be worth it if he it turns out last season is a good indicator of the kind of player he will be. If it turns out to be a fluke, Leafs will regret it.

I don't think it's a gamble they're willing to make with the cap going down and the possibility to lose a player like Franson in the process.

Nonis (frank)ed up, he probably thought he could trade liles but its not working. There is NO way he thought he could keep liles and still sign franson and kadri with whats left over. All along, Liles and Grabo shoulda been bought out, with regular buyout to komi

Exactly. If the Habs gave him what he wanted he's a steal - already! It can work out nicely for the club on these long term deals also.

i think he's playing it fine with Kadri. other teams are in the same sitch (NYR, STL, Ott, even Phoenix wih Boedeker). but with Franson, i think he's completely made a hash of things. Franson is the only one of the key unsigned RFAs who is over 23 and not coming off an ELC. the guy has put in his time. he's been a pro for 6 seasons (NHL for 4) and was picked in the same draft as Sidney Crosby. the idea of a "bridge" deal or "prove it again" deal for him is ludicrous. he should have been taken care of before the Leafs got themselves into this squeeze.

It sure can. But you have to be sure about the players. Like Chicago was with guys like Toews, Kane, Hossa.

Habs needed to be convinced with Subban, needed to see him change his attitude and he did, and he produced like never before.

Haha youve been saying? Ive been saying this since day one. Arguably Franson should be getting 4M. And kadri should of been on a bridge deal of 2 years for 3M per or locked up longterm to a caphit of 4-4.5M for 6-8 years
