hmmm lemme see, would i rather pick a guy whos been in the NHL for past seasons, producing and more accomplished, or a guy that hasnt been in the nhl since 2010, such a tough decision
Well, the Leafs are your employer and they must look out for their organization needs as much as you need to look out for your own. They feel your current value to the team is X dollars and are willing to pay you for your services for X years...if you feel otherwise you make your case.
It goes back and forth but the decision is ultimately up to the boss who has a certain amount of money to extend to the employee who feels they deserve a big raise. If they cannot agree on the dollar term, than that employee can sit and watch everyone else work happily together.
Yes, its in the employers best interest to keep their employees happy, but they cannot be throwing away valuable cap dollars. The player needs to understand where they sit in their career and if they are good with discussions now, they will likely be rewarded down the road for it. - Colin Dambrauskas
And every other player understands this. You won't hear one guy come out and say the team is treating either player unfairly, because they know this is how things are done.
Liles is better than ranger and more accomplished than ranger by a long shot. I dont care how good he did in the AHL (cough kostka), he hasnt played in the nhl in forever. Hes not a prospect, so why the big fuss? This guy is not long term in our books. And what are they battling for? A 3rd pairing spot? Not a big deal if liles plays on the 3rd pairing with say a guy like fraser.

Liles will be moved. Theres a few teams who could afford and need him. ie. Colorado.

They would both have to pass through waivers to be sent down. Ranger gets claimed...100%. Liles...not so much. That's why they send down Liles if necessary. - djamon
Agreed. I think ranger is a better fit than liles in carlyle's system. Better defender.
I love your editing skills...at first I thought damn maybe he's added an edge to his game but then I look closer and I see that you edited Morrow falling over from a different hit and a different game.

Alot of teams and coaches would start liles over ranger, no one cares about ranger, hes not our next god defender - Mapleleafs_91
I don't believe that, and I know for a fact you don't have that info. Fact is the coach of liles didn't play him, chose kostka (who ranger was better than) to go ahead of liles.
On the cap, but can they afford him in their budgets. - aminnes
this is so old....can anyone find me a newer/relevant source that indicates that the Avs have been dealing with internal budgets for like 5 years straight!?
Im pretty sure it was shortlived and no longer an issue. No they are not likely going to spend right up to the cap, but I dont think this is an "issue" any longer.

Cause hes a moron, kostka was utter ass. As coaches do have their positives, he does have flaws carlyle
