What about Philly?
Obviously, both teams are in a bit of a jam, but is there any way to at least flip salary for salary in the hopes both teams can improve?
Coburn has been floating out there all summer. Franson and Kadri for Coburn and Schenn or Couts?
We solve our RFA problem and maybe Holmgren can get them cheaper than us in the US with lower income tax rates. - Leeman4Gilmour
The ONLY reason the Flyers were looking to trade Coburn was for cap space. Your deal make zero sense considering you give them 2 unsigned players that will cost a bunch more than what they are giving up. |

Will this goaltending gem give us better numbers than the Reimer/Scrivens tandem? At this point, that's all that matters.
We took on 2.4 million bucks to upgrade in that position, so I'd hope to see a significant improvement. $2.4 could be the margin of Kadri/Franson or no Kadri/Franson. - Leeman4Gilmour
This is partially right I think. You bring in an unproven guy and give him far more than your guy that played well this year. You take on salary and create an unnecessary controversy. I think the biggest mistake was signing Blozak and buying out Grabo. Should have kept Grabo, buy out Liles and let Blozak walk. Plenty of space to sign Kadri and Franson.
Now Nonis has a cap mess, and pissed off players, and a goalie controversy. |

Coburn and Schenn would cost a combined 7.6 million bucks. Again, the only way ti makes sense is if Homer thinks he can get Franson and Kadri done for less than we could.
If he could get them at 3 each on bridge deals (something we haven't been able to do, but again, lower tax rates in the US), he's saving 1.6 million. |

I'd say clarksons cap hit a wee bit more to do with it.......

Just trade him or buyout Liles in my opinion Komisarek should never have been bought out he should have been left in the minors for one more year allowing the Leafs to buyout Liles who is not a physical presence and is more like a Kaberle 1A. |

Ultimately, we would have had a higher contract in Grabovski with a higher chance of looking really bad in 2-3 years vs. a lower AAV in Bozak that will likely look better as he goes through his prime.
The problem really could just be the shortened season. In a full year, Kadri would have cooled off (or never would have gotten hot to begin with without the AHL advantage) and he'd be taking a bridge deal. |

Kadri did cool off. The last month of the season he was no where close to the start of the season. That is likely playing into Nonis' stance. And I don't blame him for that. Kadri needs to prove what he can do for a longer period of time than he has. |

silliness.
any chance you get to find a potential goaltending gem, you take the risk.
buying out komisarek over liles.....thats another story. - Barx
Agreed. Paying Bernier 2.4 isn't really a huge deal in the big picture. We also couldn't have gone into this season with Scrivens and Reimer again and expect to compete over 82 games. We would have probably had to pay either way, and this was a move with a lot of upside. |

I think it was more to do with the quality of opposition than running out of steam, which is probably more worrisome. But exactly why Kadri should be given a bridge contract as well. |

This is a rather irrelevant arguement. Liles could still play on this team and contribute. Komi couldnt. While Liles has longer term, the problem with our cap is this season not next season. If we would have bought out Liles and kept Komi, then would have close to about a million less cap space this season.
Explain to me how Nonis is a moron for not managing this seasons cap by buying out the guy who makes more this season? In addition to that, there is a hope and chance Liles can be traded at some point and bring at least a pick back in return, a hope that didn't exist with Komi.

Wrong and wrong. Clarkson and Bernier are not the problem. The major issue was Liles should of been complianced buyout and komisarek normal buyout. Leaving us with more than enough cap left to sign kadri and franson even if we had to send guys down to the marlies to have even more cap. |

It's 2.9 actually. Of all the things Nonis has done, this confuses me the most. Not sure what Bernier did to deserve 2.9, I think 2 would have been sufficient and would certainly give some breathing room.
With that I completely support bringing Bernier in, it was a great trade. Scrivens showed he isn't 'the guy', if Reimer got hurt, we were boned. |

If Nonis passed on that chance, it's because there was interest in Liles from other teams. No other explanation. |

Exactly. Its not what Bernier did though but what Bernier probably wanted. Bernier was in the last year of his contract, no? Nonis had to sign him and Bernier and his agent knew it. They had the upper hand. |
