please come down off your canadian high horse. it's older than the inaccurate "truth" about poopty flyers goaltending and why they haven't won a cup since 1975.

canada invented the game, owns the game, has won the most games, has the best players, always will. got it. we know.

agree completely on both points. i hate professionals playing in the olympics, especially with respect to hockey because it interrupts the NHL season and subjects players on MY team to injury. leave it to the best kids/prospects in juniors and college.
- hammarby31

But are there really elite nonprofessionals playing hockey at any organized level above bantam? Juniors are paid, NCAA players are paid (with an education), minor league players are paid. It's just the level. The quality of competition has improved in every single sport since the artificial amateur status thing went away.

Actually.. the British are said to have invented it. The modern rules were created by a Canadian however.

There are about 40 different claims to the sport.

just so you know, the maccabi games had over 9000 athletes from over 70 countries compete this july. it's the 3rd largest athletic "tournament" in the world. guess it wasn't too small for the canadians to be coached by jacques demers (senior team) and guy carbonneau (open) as well as have some former NHL and current KHL players playing it.

and if you didn't notice, the icon after the photo was there to indicate i was being playful.

i'm aware of this. it's just easier to say canada invented it because that's what they believe. ugh.....what a waste of time this conversation is.

First off to be clear I think its great the way USA hockey has developed and are continuing to develop Great hockey hockey players. In my original comments made about Canada being disappointed in the absence of Giroux...yes Hockey is HUGE in Canada. My comments made after that was in response to another comment which got off topic and got back into this back and forth stuff.

As for the maccabi games I searched it and I meant what I said looks like a big tournament...so yes congrats that's awesome. I would never knock someone on a personal accomplishment.

Actually...you kinda did start it. KGBflyers10 said boo hoo for Canada, crying about Giroux missing a ball hockey game, to which you replied:

"yeah I hope you enjoyed that silver medal from 2010 Olympics.....who was it the USA lost the Gold medal game to again.... "

And then the poopstorm commenced.

A few years later, the U.S. began using professional athletes at the Games - Dream Teams. I always found that term ironic because now that we have Dream Teams, we seldom ever get to dream.

Canada can suck it. Boo whoo, Giroux missed a freakin' ball hockey game. You know none of those players are going to remember tactics from a ball hockey game come February.

USA! USA! USA!

Yes. He's saying they can suck it, being all pissed off about Giroux not being there (what this whole thing started off about). I don't think he meant it about the team or the games, more the "OH NO, GIROUX'S NOT HERE!" mentality. At least that's how I read it.
