I read the news about Gagner this morning. As an Ontario guy I don't blame him for returning to his home province. As for his replacement, haven't got a clue. Wasn't even aware of what Chelios has been up to. Anyone got a proper job description for the "Player Development" job? Maybe I should apply. |

Get players from draft day into the NHL to about that 100 game mark - Is mostly what I consider it. |

Chelios would be very demanding a good fit. I don't know if he would come though. |

Chelios has zero affiliation with the Canucks, doesn't make sense.
Linden or someone from the organization would be better. It's not like its a tough job. |

Tell that to teams with excellent development programs. The ones that seem to stay on top of the league despite drafting low every year as a result of yearly playoff appearances. Fittingly, Detroit is probably the best example of a team like that. Show me one team in the league that has done a better job developing players over the last decade. A lot of that credit likely goes to Ken Holland as much as the various staff he has had in supporting roles.
It's hugely important. If you can't develop your picks/prospects, have fun overpaying in free agency. |

I'd disagree with that. Developing players is, in my opinion, more important than drafting them. And siven Vancouver's history of 40+ years of not exactly drafting well, my guess is player development has played a role in that.
And why is there a need for this person to have affilliation with the team? If they can develop players I'd take a guy from the Maple Leafs. |

Linden has expressed zero interest in getting back into hockey so far, but if he wanted to he could be a very good fit. He seems to be enjoying life going on bike trips, making money through his gyms, and not having to worry about the stress of a job like that though. |

Linden. He owns a bunch of gyms, he could do some good cross promotion.
Chelios hates the Canucks. I can't see him moving to Vancouver. |

I think Chelios would be a great fit for the job. I would just question whether it's a job he'd want or not. And whether he'd be interested in leaving the Red Wings for the Canucks.
The Red Wings have been a great springboard for front office personnel. Not that the Canucks haven't, but the Wings seem to be the class of the league at this point in terms of developing front office staff. Might have something to do with working with Ken Holland... |

Excellent point. People like to credit their drafting ability for getting guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg so late. While they do deserve credit, if they were so sure they'd be the stars they were then why'd they draft them so late? Their player development team has not received enough credit for turning their draft picks into the players they are. They've done a masterful job for years. |

This is such a myth. Detroit has a pretty poor drafting record over that past ten years. |

Highly doubt it as well. Hard not to like the Linden suggestion, such a well respected guy/player and very smart. |

Other than his charity work Linden has distanced himself from the Canucks. I doubt he wants the job. One could say the same about many former players. |

We should get Mike Keenan to do it so that Torts comes off as an easy coach once they get to the show. |

Keenan and Torts in the same organization? Scary thought.
Although, that might make for a great reality show. Tell me you wouldn't tune into an episode of that... |

Might want to take a look at their current prospect pool.
It's loaded with talent, and very deep. |

Currently yes, they have some nice UNPROVEN talent. But look at their drafting record with regard to number of NHL games played over the past ten years, it's not that great. I read an article on it, basically Datsyuk and Zetterberg were drafted 15 and 14 years ago respectively. Everyone is still saying how great it was to pick up those late round picks, fifteen years ago people! |

I'm not sure what drafting and developing is to you, but when your roster looks like this:
Justin Abdelkader
Joakim Andersson
Pavel Datsyuk
Cory Emmerton
Johan Franzen
Darren Helm
Gustav Nyquist
Tomas Tatar
Henrik Zetterberg
Danny DeKeyser
Jonathan Ericsson
Jakub Kindl
Niklas Kronwall
Brendan Smith
Jimmy Howard
I'd say that's decent drafting and development

If beer drinking is included in the carriculum ,then you are the man and I know where you can get 20 assistants who would love to get paid in beer. |
