Why should he be punished by cap mismanagement? - stormey
Nothing to do with cap management. He doesn't deserve a big pay raise for half years work of three years. |

That sir, is called a "desperate" move.
Its like taking your surround sound to the pawnshop for 20 bucks so they can sell it for 100, instead of taking the time to list on kijiji and finding the right sucker to give you 100 themselves. - Colin Dambrauskas
Nah, it's like letting someone else assume your car lease because you can't afford it along with your mortgage, and you don't want to lose your house. Priorities. |

he's not being punished but shown the reality of things.
I say he and Franson should take 2.5m 1 year deal and cashing next year/contract.

I really don't think they'll get much more than that for Liles at this time of the season. - stormey
I beg to differ...hes still a good puck moving defender who can put up points if hes still healthy which I feel that he is. If anything grab a prospect or two. But to dish him away for a 7th rounder is a waste imo. |

Well he was second on the team in scoring and the team likely would have missed the playoffs without him.
He was supposed to be better last year....and he was.
Of course he deserves a raise. Does he deserve the 5.5 he was rumored to be asking...no. But the fact is both he and Franson combined deserve more than the cap room the Leafs have left.

Since this is a new year for Franson, why not sign a one year deal for 3 million dollars, then sign another new deal, the next day, for 5 years X $4.25? The one year deal is in effect for this year and since it's the last year of his deal, the next one is a renegotiation.

At 4 mill a year?
Most teams are already right up against the cap or at their self-imposed cap. There is a reason guys like Brunner and Boyes are still looking for a place to lace-em-up.
There just isn't a big market for Liles right now....in my opinion (which means nothing). |

the only thing is that it would need to be in the new year before they sign him that extention.
didn't lindros have a simular deal with the Rangers |

I thought that was the case also....but explain the Crawford extension, or the fact the Leafs could extend Kessel now.

Definitely think that Franson should get the bulk of the remaining cap room.
Kadri's attitude after just one season really makes me wonder if we're hitting another speed-bump in his maturing.
Is this the sign of a serious character flaw |

Yeah I agree, if it was as simple as getting rid of Liles it'd have happened by now. |

I could see interset in a few teams with some cash...COL/CGY being two...but like I said, it's what the Leafs are willing to take for him. Dont think theyll want what Calgary can offer. |

Leafs would happily give him away for a late pick.
but that deal isn't out there. Will have to either retain salary to take a contract back... or both
