Hal Gill is basically a very large pylon. Grossmann's no speedster, but he'd win a foot race with Gill. They're both big, defensive shot-blocking defensemen, but Grossmann is a far more physical defender than Gill.

Hey Bill- what do you think of Scott Glennie? He was pretty regarded in the Stars' system...could he still make an impact?

Figured you're the best one to ask!

Sorry for the off topicness

I will actually get to see some games this season...in columbus (one good thing for me about realignment) and nashville! One of my students is a Pens fan...I am hoping the Flyers make it a very long season for her. Ready for some flyers hockey! Can't happen soon enough. Hope you bums have had a good summer

The kids getting older and the subtractions of Briere and Foster will help the team defense.

And hopefully better goaltending will make the team defense look better.

- Coburns_Nose

They're never going to be the New Jersey Devils, but all of those things will help.

Team defense is usually the last thing to come for any team that goes through the process of building toward being really good, with forwards sacrificing a bit of offense and young players getting stronger/better, more experienced.

I think...I just think this year's team is going to be good. I believe last year was one of those years where, as nice as it would've been for Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn to have exploded into dynamic players, they just weren't ready for that responsibility. Scott Hartnell wasn't in great shape, then got hurt. Meszaros got hurt...so on and so forth.

Can't control injuries, as we all know. But I honestly believe this year's team has addressed some glaring issues with skilled defensive depth, bottom-six role players who can do specific things that can help this team win some of those close games that we lost -- I mean, seriously. Having someone like Adam Hall around to win a tough draw, as a right-handed center...little stuff like that is important against good teams.

I just think they're going to be better this year. I just really think that.

By the way, anybody think they see Ron Hextall's influence already, with the Flyers seemingly going really lukewarm on even giving Simon Gagne a camp invite as a non-roster player?

They had never committed to it, certainly...but I read the one story on CSNPhilly where it seems like that just isn't going to happen, and you have to wonder if Hextall's the one who might be a believer in Daniel Cleary, if what Eklund's hearing is true, since he saw him more often in the West. (I know a lot of people bash him, but his Flyers info is actually well above-average, as far as reliability.)

Not a big fan. Even Stars saying their best hope for Glennie at this point is to eventually emerge into an NHL role player
Not sure he will do that, either.

Another example of a solid player in juniors to be at best an NHL role player. Or it could have just been Schenn helped make him look that good with the Wheat Kings.

Okay, assuming cap hits are even, would you rather have Gill or Gervias as your #7/8?

I like Timmy P's article about Morin on CSN.com. His article kind of made me excited about this pick. Morin sounds cocky and confident. I like that he's staying with Laperrier too. Maybe I'll go to the Skate Zone tomorrow to check out the rookies.

Just found out that the day after I leave London, the Flyers will play a pre-season game here. To boot, I missed both UK and US holidays.
