Sam Gagner is a bad comparison any way you look at it! He's never reached 50 points in a full season - LeftCoaster

I think 3/4 year deal makes the most sense, then play it year by year after that. I would not pay them more than what they currently get. I would honestly try and sign them for a 5.5 cap hit, and would consider that reasonable. No need for a Clarkson contract. - immature_male
They got 6.1 before they BOTH won art ross trophies, why would they take a paycut? If they hit the open market, theyre gonna get 7 years from a bunch of teams. |

Kadri has approx. 65 pts/GM. Go look at the forwards coming off their entry level deal the last 2 summers with those numbers and I assure you 2.65 is far below average. So why don't you clean that coffee off your screen and think a bit before posting - Bieksa#3
what does 65pts/gm mean?

How do you figure? If anything, the Habs did!
So instead of signing PK to a long term deal at $4.5/$5m per, now they're going to have to pay him somewhere in the neighborhood if $7m+ x 8. |

Because everyone has an expiry. Back in the days when they signed their contracts they were rewarded justly. There are two of them . This is a unique problem and advantage. They are still top 25 players in the league but because they come as a package deal there needs to be some type of a discount. Otherwise Canucks will have 1/3 of their salary cap on 4 players on the wrong side of thirty. You can't take this as a resigning OV or Crosby. THose players would get their 8 mill, but we are talking 12 -15 mil. That is effin scary to tie up that much cap long term. |

If they gave him a fair contract in the first place we would not be discussing him would we. |

If anything they resign for same money, not more IMO. - immature_male
Market value would be higher, but I think they'd take the hometown discount at $6.1 million per.
5 Years:
$8,000,000
$8,000,000
$6,000,000
$4,500,000
$4,000,000 |

Check these numbers from the 2009 draft year:
1. John Tavares 291GP 112G 137A 249 pts $5.5mil cap hit for 6 years
2. Victor Hedman 258GP 16G 73A 89 pts $4mil for 5 years
3. Matt Duchene 266GP 82G 111A 193 PTS $6 mil for 5 years, kicks in next year.
4. Evander Kane 261GP 80G 79A 159 PTS $5.25 for 6 years.
5. Brayden Schenn 110GP 20G 26A 46 PTS $3.11 for 3 years
6. Oliver Eckman-Larson 178GP 17G 50A 67PTS $5.5 for 6 years.
7. Nazem Kadri 99GP 26G 37A 63 PTS and is still an unsigned RFA.
Kadri does not deserve a contract like Tavares, Duchene or Kane at this point in his career. I think something similar to Brayden Schenn is more than fair at this stage of his development.

How do you figure? One decent half season is not worth $4.5 for 2 years. I say $3.5m at the very most.
Hodgson might be worth a tad more at this point but neither are worth $4.5 for 2 years. |

and that coming from an oilers fan... whose team only pay players for potential not past performance. |

Because I look at how many games he was a key point in winning and I think he took control and won mostly by himself. Now if you want to lose those 5 or 6 games a year to save a million and miss the playoffs then be my guest. |
