I honestly don't get why a player would accept a try out to the Leafs when they still need to sign Kadri and Franson and then the second thought on that is why are the Leafs offering try outs when they have to sign Kadri and Franson. This Nonis guy keeps getting better and better (I do realize it is only a try out and doesnt cost anything but why?) - blizzzard
It's called leverage. Hey Naz, you want 6 years @ $5M per? Guess what, MayRay'll play for $1M and he's already here at camp.
And if he plays well enough to take someone else's job, all the better for the Leafs. It's a win-win situation for them.
I don't understand how you'd have a problem with it? |

If they don't work out Lu for Gardiner Kadri and Franson - VANTEL
With Kadri and Franson's current cap situation they should probably throw in Reilly too. |

I think it should if healthy he has proven to be the better player over his career. Both contracts are risks the reason the Clarkson one is worse for me is because you now have 2 really good young players sitting out waiting to be signed because you spent all you're cap on resigning Bozak and signing Clarkson. To me it is one thing to over pay for a player when you can but totally different when you now of two guys in Franson and Kadri waiting for anything to happen. Neither player is likely to live up to the contract given I think everyone knows that but the argument here is which contract is worse. - blizzzard
Kadri doesn't deserve anymore than we have left...2.5 to 3 mill max.
We can afford their agents are just greedy.

You guys couldn't just trade Lou for Water Bottle a couple months ago.
You guys are stuck with him for the duration of his contract or retirement. - Garnie

Well since you put it that way I wish the Devils had of told Henrique to suck it because we are going to invite "MayRay" to camp and he will play for cheaper but not fill a damn thing you bring to the table.... Henrique " yea good luck with that" |

Who over is career been a much better player minus an bad shortened season which really hurts the comparison. I could go on just as long as you about Clarkson. In the end we got a guy who brings what he brought to the table and got our RFA's signed.

Ok, maybe you could have thrown in Henrik and Daniel and traded him in a package deal. |

we spent about 500k/season more on Clarkson then the Devils did on Clowe,
who has 20 goals over the last 2 seasons compared to Clarksons 45. Maybe the Devils should have kept Clarkson by spending a little more - GardinerExpress
Just because the Devils overpaid (massively) for Clowe, doesn't mean the Clarkson deal will look any better in a year. Both franchises will quickly regret those signings. |

There's another buyout window this summer if they can't trade him. They aren't stuck with him unless they choose to be. Try to keep up. |

Luongo's cap hit is actually a bargain, so I'd take him and his contract over Clarkson's in a heartbeat.
Ballard's playing about as well as Grabo these days. |

He doesn't and I don't really think Raymond place a similar style to Kadri that was the point. For me it is just one of those things that didn't need to be done when their are more important things that need to be checked off yet. I also noted that yes it is only a try out and no harm can come from it but you think those two would be top priorities before offering guys try outs. |

yes of course you would...
If Lou plays like he has been...you will be getting an early start to the golf season.
Not sure why the hate so much for Clarkson...I'm sure the Nuckleheads would have signed him if they could. |

I never minded his hit and still think once he gets back to playing 60-70 games a season he will be in the conversation for best goalies in the league he takes way to much heat for being a pr*ck in the boston series. If he never said that he would of made that save everyday that Tim Thomas didn't he wouldn't have such a bad rep. But I have really started to like the guy as he has changed his personality since the Lu corey saga |

So Kadri and Franson are the priorities, but if they don't want to sign reasonable deals then the whole franchise should halt operations until they get done? That makes zero sense.
This is just like the Tanev situation. He had no leverage so his agent said there was interest from the KHL. The next day came a report that the Canucks had interest in Doug Murray. Days later Tanev's contract was signed. |

They didn't tell him they wanted him to leave, he told them he wanted to leave. Big difference.
Also, his cap hit is a bargain. The only problem with his contract is it's length and the fact that there are recapture penalties if he retires before the contract ends (which is more than likely).
Here's an easy way around those pesky recapture penalties which make his contract quite reasonable. If he retires with 3 years left on his deal, trade his rights to a team looking to hit the cap floor (as the cap is expected to be over $80M by that point, there will be numerous teams trying to hit the $66M floor). They buy his contract out for $2.4M, but save around $12M by using his cap hit to hit the floor over the next 6 years. |
