Sorry, missed this 'til now...
Nicole, even though it was downgraded to a TS by the time it reached us, did a lot more damage wind-wise than Ian.
We did have more rain and thus flooding with Ian, but the flooding didn't reach the house.
Also, our transformer blew-out and it took them almost a week to fix it. All because the FPL and their in-state contractor crews were dispatched to worse hit areas and it took some time for the out-of-state contractors they bring in to get their poop together. We ran an extension cord across the street to a friendly neighbors who didn't lose their power so we could at least keep our fridge/freezer running and charge our phones.
We also lost cable service a few hours before the power went out. Not sure how long it was out. Perhaps not as long as the power (it was working by the time power was restored), but I decided not to keep the network equipment powered-up with the extension. Just used the cell service for connecting to the digital world.
Thankfully it stayed relatively cool because of the storm and the humidity didn't return before power was restored.
Like I said, Nicole hit harder with the winds so I was a bit surprised we never lost power at all for it. But at least we didn't get as much rain as Ian. The poor schmucks living right on the beach got really (frank)ed by Nicole's surge after getting some moderate rain flooding from Ian (no surge). Much different for us a couple of miles inland (about a 1/2 mile from the ICW).
My parents weren't so lucky with Ian. They live a 1/2 hour south of Sarasota. They had more flooding and wind damage. They're still waiting to get flooding repairs done. Luckily they have cinder block construction so no mold issue. but floors and some drywall needs fixing, They lost a couple of roof tiles to wind but that was fixed PDQ. Their big & heavy palm tree went down and just missed hitting the house, so they got real lucky cause that most certainly would have caused structural damage to the roof and perhaps walls. Also their city still has yet to pick-up a lot of the waste piles that were made all over the places after clean-up. That would only be a major concern if it still was storm season, but with it getting hotter again, there are worries about sanitation issues with the piles.
Mrs. Decko's folks, and some of my more distant relatives, all living in their various hideaways in the Caribbean, all came out unscathed this past hurricane season. I guess they all got a break since many have had to deal with past storms one time or another.
Not so rare down here... but then I can say it's mostly "winter" in name only (and amount of daylight). High was 83, humid enough with no cross-breeze that we had to turn on the AC a bit (And yesterday we had to keep the windows closed just to keep warm).

"There's potential for a couple of inches of snow, with the best chance for accumulation in interior South Jersey. The system may also run farther north, which would spread the snow throughout more of the state. Or it could travel farther south, leaving New Jersey with little-to-no snow accumulation."

this holiday season we were all sitting around in one of the family members homes when 72 year old aunt candy turned to us and said "it's nut roasting in here" and i hadn't laughed that hard in a while.

aunt candy texts me every time a celebrity dies to see if i had them on my list lol.
