I think a more suitable analogy would be something like, "Just because I enjoyed Rocky 4 doesn't mean I'm a Dolf Lundgren fan." - jmatchett383
I'm still amazed that man has a masters in chemical engineering. |

Shelley proved me wrong. He was far from a waste. He was the highest paid mascot in the NHL. - PLindbergh31
Shelley served the role that he was signed for. Same as Rosehill will. |

Trying to find out what is really going on with Cleary. - bmeltzer
Cold feet over having to live with the "PTO until the end of camp/we sort out the cap" thing, maybe? |

Maybe he wasn't comfortable with the Flyers' general practice of paying players in Jamaican currency. |

Well maybe it is the Physical. It really makes the most sense right now unless there was something really screwy or the Wings jumped back in. Anxious to hear. - mayorofangrytown
Could be many things. Maybe Detroit upper their offer, since his stated preference was to stay there. Maybe Florida decided to offer more than the Flyers, or guranatee him a top 6 role. Maybe the NHL said no to the PTO with the promise of a contract in place. Maybe Cleary couldn't get insurance for the duration of the PTO. |

I think the only logical explanation is that Cleary isn't actually a real person, but simply a figment of our imaginations. |

So you're telling me there's no cap problem? They're currently 2 million over the cap. sure they can shuffle the deck chairs and write off the Pronger contract but that doesn't mean they are in a good cap position and that's a problem.
If they really want Cleary and can't sign him today because they don't have cap room and they lose him because of that then there's a problem. (supposition but valid example)
...and if you don't like my analogy it doesn't mean it's not an effective cry for help. - mayorofangrytown
Yes, I'm telling you that there is no Cap problem. And technically, no they aren't over the Cap. Every single NHL team has to make moves to become Cap compliant at the end of training Camp.
Being in a bad Cap position is not being able to make the moves you want to improve the team. That is clearly not the case.
Flyers aren't shuffling the deck chairs, they are using the rules of the Salary Cap under the CBA to maximize the use of their Cap resources. And they do the same every year. The Flyers are going to max out those resources, pretty much every year. The Cap has been around for about 8 years now. |

Was unaware. More folly. - PLindbergh31
Folly, as in lack of good sense? Seems more like misfortune to me. Unless you're saying he woke up that morning and thought, "Hmm, I'm going to help my team and/or advance my career by getting hurt today." |

I could see the cap circumvention here... just sign him now and use the 10% cushion, though. |
