I was actually quite excited that it didn't even take us a full offseason to get a new Danny Boy. |

Looking forward to seeing Cleary's contract terms with the Wings. Can't wait to see Wings fans shred Holland for giving Cleary 3 years at 2.75+ per season. |

I thought the problem wasn't from Cleary's end... Some bright reporter needs to shoot a text out to Cleary and ask him what's up. |

If the Wings magically match the Flyers' offer, I'd be stunned to read a negative word about Ken Holland and how he's become feckless with contract money.
The story will be about how the GM and coach went out of their way to retain a guy that's been a good solider.
Book it. |

Holland has built up plenty of credibility with that fan base. Any fans knocking him should have their heads examined.
If Cleary signs for less than what the Flyers offer is what will the reaction be? Would kind of make the Flyers look silly. |

why would it make us look silly?
Cleary played chicken against Holland and won.

We shall see what happens tomorrow. Holmgren said he still expects Cleary to show up. Have to believe that is what will happen. |

I'm sure he has, but hockey writers (somewhat wrongly) gave Holmgren a pretty hard time about this proposed contract for Cleary.
If the Great Ken Holland matches it, what does that say about people who ripped Homer?

Not really since Cleary's said all summer that his first preference is to remain in Detroit, and that all along he's been talking to Holland. |

Why? Aren't people always expecting guys to give a home town discount when they really want to stay?
Danny B signed here for less than Montreal offered and he wasn't connected to either team. |

Well apparently Detroit offered him a three year deal and slightly above 2MM per year just before July 5th. So all of the hate the press threw at Homer is just the typical bashing the Flyers usually get. If the Wings thought Cleary would hold up for three years then it kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the media, seeing as they would know the most about his health.
http://www.mlive.com/redw...offer_to_daniel_clea.html
EDIT: The Flyers signed Cleary for virtually the same deal as Detroit, with the typical raise in salary to convince the player to leave the place he is comfortable. The Penguins trade a 1st, 2 seconds, a 5th, plus prospects for Morrow (Gone), Iginla (Gone), and Douglas Murray (LOL, Gone) and Shero WON GM of the Year. And Homer is crazy?! Perspective people, perspective. |

No offense but I do know how the cap works, well not all of the new stuff from last year yet, but I have the previous cap down. I know how they calculate it I know how all of it works. I know about the off season. There's nothing you're going to teach me given a week and a dollar that's going to change my opinion of what they're doing to manage the cap.
- mayorofangrytown
If you know how the Cap works, you wouldn't state that the Flyers are over the Cap, when they aren't. Nor would you ask what moves other teams had to make similar to the Flyers. And none of that is anything that is new in the current CBA. It's the same as it was on day 1 of the Salary Cap in 2005.
The way they manage the cap I see as a problem. You obviously don't.
I figgin' hate the cap and wish it would go away as I've stated on here many times, repeatedly. I don't like mentioning the cap because instead of actually talking about the issues we're having it turns into someone's lecture on what they know about the cap that they think everyone else must be oblivious too because our collective heads are up our a$$es.
It wasn't a cap problem when we lost depth players off our team several years ago or employed a back up goalie and a defenseman from local programs on one day contracts. That's all well within the rules of the cap so nothing is ever a problem until they violate the cap.
Sounds good. What do I know. - mayorofangrytown
The problem is that how the Flyers manage the Cap is viewed from a flawed perspective. And that's proven by the statements made, which is why, as you call it "lectures" are given. From what perspective to do the Flyers operate in? The one you present, or the one I do? Are you really going to hang your hat on the one day the Flyers used a local defenseman and backup Goalie as your flagship on how the Flyers mismanage the Cap?
There a real Cap problem when they're forced to trade a player they don't want to, because of a Cap issue. That hasn't happened. The Flyers have made choices that may have been unpopular with the fans. But they are choices. And the Flyers, like every other team does, use the rules available to them, to try and put the best team together they can.
In the last Off Season, they've added Lecavalier, Streit, Emery, and possibly Cleary to the lineup. To try and make the team better.
But maybe some fans would prefer they don't use all of the Cap money allotted to them, and finished the Season 10M under the Salary Cap. Because then they wouldn't have a Salary Cap problem. They'd just have a Hockey problem. |

You're splitting hairs. You know I mean if the Cap was applied as it will be in October they're over the cap. If you're going to call me on that you can spend all your time running around correcting all the articles written on the internet about all the teams that are currently "over the cap". Don't act dumb to try to make a point, it's just emabarrassing.
And there's a big difference between moving players to places you don't want them because they have to and simply assigning players to various clubs because that's where they belong.
And no, waivers have changed so the ability to move players have changed so working within the cap has changed so it's not all the same.

The perspective I have of how the Flyers managed the cap is not flawed it's just not yours. You don't like the way I look at it that's your problem not mine.
Show me once where I said they should hold onto 10M in cap space and I'll pay you that in Snicker bars. I want them to use their contract spots and money intelligently, mostly they do, sometimes I don't think they do. When I don't, I'll express it. Feel free to agree or disagree. Don't hurt your back trying to bend over to educate me. It's not necessary. I'm perfectly fine. |
