Thats pretty much where I am at. Now I am not angry about the decision, I think fans will love Cleary (i personally believe you can never have enough heart), but it seems like a move a team like Boston would make, a team that is a cup contender and is looking to improve the bottom 6 with a character guy. - jak521
While I do not think the Flyers will win the Stanley Cup I think they have a chance at least. I like that Holmgren did not trade any of the young guys and still added players that fit needs.
All GM's should have an eye towards the Cup. If the goalies get hot and they get the right match ups anything is possible. I think that is why the Flyers spend to the cap every year and make any move they deem necessary to win. You never know so why not add the players that you think give you the best chance to win now as long as you do not give up any of the future?
All that being said this is a big year for Brayden Schenn. To me has to prove he is a top six forward this year. If not, he is probably removed from the Flyers long term plans. |

I don't see that being the case at all concerning Schenn. He's 22 years old and has played 110 NHL games. If he struggles and the Flyers give up on him that easily, shame on them.
Voracek had a breakout Season last year, which was his 4th NHL Season. Richards, when he was here, broke out in his 3rd NHL Season. Carter in his 4th NHL Season. Giroux in his 3rd Season. |

If Schenn puts up numbers like Carter did even in his 3rd season (same age as Schenn), I'd be happy. |

Not saying they give up on him. I am saying he would be counted on less in the long term vision of the team.
I think 20 goals and at least 41 points are a must. It looks like he will be given the ice time this year.
Would you be disappointed if he gets second line minutes and some power play minutes and he does not score 20 goals? |

Giving up on him, or counting on him less in the long term vision of the team, is the same thing. It would depend on how he plays. If he's getting a lot of scoring chances, and is driving the net, and playing a hard physical game. As well as improving his play away from the puck. If that produces 18 goals, I would not be disappointed.
In terms of NHL experience, he's basically in his 2nd NHL Season. Both the team and the fans should show some patience. |

It is in Brayden Schenn's best personal financial interest to put his best foot forward this year.

I guess my question is do you expect him to be more like Carter or Richards in his 3rd year? Richards had 75 points in his 3rd (07-08) season and Carter had 53 points in his 3rd (07-08) season. |

Every player is different. They all develop at their own pace. I think an expectation of around 15-20 goals and 45-50 pts is realistic and reasonable. He could explode for more, who knows. But if he has periods of the Season where he struggles, as long as the effort is there, I won't be discouraged. |

Moving Max Talbot is not something I'd like to see.
And I hope if the Flyers DO sign Cleary and he passes his physical, that "Cleary's Knees" doesn't become the sister punchline to "Foppa's Feet". - johndewar
I think it's a great move to sign a 34 yr old player with knee issues for 2.75 mil who plays a third line role so that we can get under the cap by trading a 29 yr old player who fills much the same role at 1.75 mil.
I think there's a brilliance there that most would over look. |

Ideally BSchenn will put up 60 points, then sign a two year bridge deal at around $3m a year like the one Kadri just signed. |

Isn't Meszaros injury recurring as well? I think that's a factor. - BulliesPhan87
I was talking about Talbot bro.
But yes, with Meszy having a recurring shoulder injury it could be worrisome. The one thing that could change that though is that he had a surgical intervention. Prior to that he rehabbed and tried to go forward with a non-surgical approach. That obviously didn't help.
There are various reason for different approaches. Maybe the doctor thought he didn't have structural damage.. maybe they thought that by strengthening the muscles around the shoulder joint he would stabilize the joint and respond well.
Obviously those things didn't happen and he was forced to have a more significant correction. The benefit is that these repairs are normally lasting repairs. They also can correct smaller issues that could also lead to issues.
The negative side is that it shelves a player for a long period of time, and take careful rehabilitation to get back to 100%. |

Ideally, Schenn would put up 200 points, win the Conn Smythe, help the Flyers win the Cup, and sign for league minimum for 8 years. |

I agree with you regarding the effort. If he is making the effort the points will come especially if plays with other top six talent. |

Trading Coburn to Edmonton for a 2nd and a prospect. Alt's a full time NHLer by the end of the Calendar year. |
