Doesn't sound like the Sedins will be signing one or two year deals. Said they hope this next contract is their last at presser this morning. So much for the 1 yr, $2M deal! |

from what I understand, that whole "1 year deal" thing was a quote taken out of contex.

It's tough for these guys to try and hold out. The market has been set for them now and they have virtually no leverage. Realistically the only option they have is to try and sign offer sheets, which will be especially difficult this year with the cap dropping. As someone noted recently, those who have money don't have cap space and those who have cap space don't have money.
I don't see an offer to Franson drastically improving based on the Leafs performance on the ice to start the season. They've likely identified what they'll pay for him and drawn the line in the sand. He'll cave eventually, just depends how long he'll wait. - KB3Point0
So you're telling me that if the Leafs start 1-5 that they aren't going to bump the offer up a little on their 1A D?
Honestly, by holding out, I can't see teams dropping their offer, but I can surely see a slow start for the team or a crappy PP getting Franson some more coin. |

Maybe they only want to play two more years. |

I don't care if they won't win the Cup with that line-up...that's what I'd like to see either this year or next because I'm wanting CHANGE. |

I like it but sub in Booth for scrub Weise. No one is gonna take Booth so might as well keep him and see what he does if he's healthy. |

The thing with Lu is last years numbers get inflated by a couple of bad games.
Take out the 7 and 8 goal games and you have a goalie that is a lot closer to elite than the numbers make it look. - IanEsplen
Take out his two shut outs out and his GAA goes up . Can't have it one way |

Certainly possible, but unlikely if they actually want this to be their last contract. My guess is 4, maybe 3. A 4 year extension would make them 37 for their last year. Can't see them retiring at 35. They'll still be too good and they're too competitive. |

If they go 1-5 missing Franson won't be the only reason. If they did bump up their offer it won't be by anywhere near enough to make holding out a good idea for him. They certainly won't want to be seen as caving just because someone held out either, might give other players ideas. |

As Booth missed most of last season adding him into the lineup would also represent change! |

Not much.
With the shortened season the team hanging him out to dry vs Detroit and benching virtually all of their starters vs Edmonton in the final game destroyed his numbers. Those were team defeats that Luongo's numbers end up taking the majority of the hit for. If they had occurred during a normal season the affect on his numbers wouldn't have been nearly as drastic. |

I'm starting a rumour: Tim Thomas to Vancouver to be Roberto Luongo's caddy. Brings a bicycle pump to press conference.
Ek clearly took this as a source hot off the presser. Seriously though |

Gaunce looked pretty average at the Youngstars tournament. Not sure if he's ready to make the jump.
I do think Horvat will be given a long look, as will Shinkaruk.
Judging by today's presser Kassian still looks deranged. I seriously question this guy's ability to consistently perform as a top liner for 82 games + playoffs. But #@$& it, give him a shot and see what happens. We really don't have a Plan B. |

I'd argue that looking deranged could work in his favour considering the physical role the Canucks are hoping he plays. |
