Flyers offered 8.25 over 3 years. So Cleary took 6.5 million less to stay in Detroit.
WTF is right.
Would like to see other examples of this. Can't recall off the top of my head. Seems kind of unprecedented.
Using this premise, Gagne should agree for the Flyers to place a time clock in the building, where he punches in and out for 10 bucks an hour. - PLindbergh31

Cleary wasn't on the radar a week or 2 ago, and everyone is up in arms that he did or didn't sign. Ahh, feels like the season is finally upon us. |

Not at all. Just find it amazing a player would accept 1 yr at 1.75, as opposed to 3 yrs at 2.75.

HAHAHA! Good for him. Get me a schedule and we'll try to get out again if that's okay. - mayorofangrytown
Eval skate is Monday night (us poor folk don't play full travel). I should get the schedule in 2 weeks' time, based on prior seasons. I will certainly email you when I get it. |

Do we know for a fact that Cleary had an offer in hand? |

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Bottom line here with Dan Cleary is that he had second thoughts after agreeing to PTO with Flyers. Met with Holland/Babcock yesterday...
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
He wanted to see one last time if Wings could do anything. As @aaronward_nhl reported, Wings able to come up with 1 yr/$1.75 M
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Cleary thanked Flyers for PTO but said he had change of heart, wants to stay in Detroit. Taking less than market value for sure.

As Cleary says via text message, he's following his heart

It was reported everywhere. I'm sure it was true.
Wait til everyone sees the hometown discount Gagne gives the Flyers. He's going to play for 3 cases of hair gel, and free lambourghini oil changes. |

Thanks. He doesn't need to play travel hockey. If we had in house options I'd go the cheaper route. Those dry up around Bantam then it's school or travel and in Middle School travel was the safer option. Unfortunately, he's playing school and travel now so we eat at the gas station and lick the wrappers between games.

I'm going with the Vegas odds and assuming there is plenty of backlash one way or the other |

I think we can negotiate it to 2 cases if we offer some wax for the lambourghini. |

Yea it did. But 8th grade is so much better, because that's when its "cool" to be a bully and pick on others. |

I'd thrown in a case of those soft pretzels shaped like the Flyers logo just to sweeten the pot.

I really dont care either. Cleary would have made the 3rd line more of a shut-down specialist line while Gagne should make the 3rd line a line that will out score other 3rd lines like 3-1. I'm ok with either. |
