Can't really blame a guy for going where he wants to go and is comfortable.
With that said, hopefully he impales himself on his own stick at Detriot training camp!

It's not a great sign when you offer the most money and it doesn't work. Sports are a business where athletes 99.9% of the time take the most money. We have the examples of Parise, Suter, and now Cleary not coming to Philadelphia for more money than what they ultimately accepted. - PLindbergh31
I'd say that percentage is a bit closer to 80%. There are factors that influence you beyond money. Family is a HUGE reason. Comfort is another.
I don't think it says bad things about us as a destination to not get everyone we go after. |

4.6 million dollar raises are pretty hard to say no to. It's not as if Giroux gave the Flyers any sort of home town discount. - PLindbergh31
I was referring to Shea "Zetterberg Smash" Weber. |

Well Shelley isn't there to set an example in the locker room
Anymore - funmaster18
I knew this would be a problem. Can we give him another 1.1 million against the cap just to hang with the team? |

Yes and no. we can talk about home town discounts but too much of a discount and that player feels unwanted and is either not going to care as much or is going to do everything he can to get away from us. I'd much rather be known as a team willing to put their money where their mouth is.
It's like underpaying people in the real world. If you are doing the same job and making much less you are going to be looking for an escape route. |

Maybe they can hire him as an inspirational speaker. |

They need to come up with some kind of structure where players can only be paid a certain amount of money, and some way of limiting or "capping" how much money each team can spend on its players. |

Columbus already snatched Shelley up to do just that. |

Absolutely. There are always extenuating circumstances. My point was majority of the time athletes go for the most money. |

Leight, but just saw "CoHo" signed 6 years at $4.25M per. That seems like a steep price, to me. |

Blue Jackets are perennial doormats. They don't have a goalie. |
