The only thing I'm going to say about Orson Scott Card's political views is that most people born in 1951 or before are going to be conservatives.
Have you read Ender's Game? A really, really good book. It can be read as a light read for the fun of it or you can get sucked into some of the rather dark questions that the book brings to light. Sure you can read it as if it's Harry Potter, but it's so very not. I just hope they don't screw it up.
Sam Raimi I've enjoyed some of his work but he doesn't hit me in the gut. Some of Guillermo's images give me nightmares. The man breathes creepy/beautiful. I feel most of Raimi's work has been more geared towards mainstream. Which is not a bad thing, he makes more money and influences more people that way. I just see him more as a stepping stone to the dark side, he just doesn't live there.
Glad to know you liked firefly, I adored it!
Check out Dollhouse, I know sounds dumb but is really quite good. - FlyersGrace
Ender's Game is my favorite book of all time. It really is. I've probably read it 30 times, and I think most of the sequels (minus Xenocide) at least 3. I've been waiting for the movie for years. I'm not a fan of Card's views, but the man can write.
Raimi, to me, is like Jesus, because, as Jesus turned water into win, Raimi turned Bruce Campbell into BRUCE CAMPBELL. I hope that makes sense. I've told my wife several times that I'd leave her for Bruce.
Honestly, I've seen almost none of Del Toro's work. |

Some old Nutter. Are you prepared to unleash? - PLindbergh31
For the season? Haha that depends on how the team plays.
A lot of questions, gut tells me Holmgren doesn't survive the experiment. |

My conservative 91-year-old dad? No problem with gay marriage. It's no skin off of his teeth, he says. - bodiva88
Yep, which is why I said most. Not everyone is going to agree or disagree.
I just know my own experiences being raised in the south that the older the generation the less tolerant, and the less they cared about expressing their views.

You are in for a treat then. Check out Pan's Labyrinth, Don't be Afraid of the Dark, and the Devil's Backbone.
All worth seeing. Don't be turned off by the subtitles.
He also did the Hellboy series (#2 being my favorite), but it was obvious he had to continually change things to appeal to the mainstream constituency that just wouldn't get his normal work.
And yes Bruce Campbell is truly a gem in his own right. I'm happy he's still out there kicking butt and taking names, some of his one-liners are more than kult classics and should be taught to everyone for everyday use. We'd all just get along in a more civilized manner if we all acted more like Bruce Campbell...
EDIT: My movie reccomendations above are for those who like horror / weird flicks... if all you want is explosions you'll be bored to tears. |

You think Holmgren will be gone after this season? Any particular death knell for him? |

I do like horror for sure, but not "weird flicks." There was some movie you guys were raving about where 2 people are trapped like inside of a person or something, and they weren't sure if they were really there or not...forget the name (if you said it, I'd remember it) but that's way too artsy for me. |

I wanted to repost something a fellow Flyers fan posted in Eklund's blog that I thought was gold.
Clutch team guy waiting around willing to cut a hometown discount?... Homer... this is why you can't say boo about Jagr, Knuble or Carle not waiting around for you to deal with Your salary Cap problems, or to wait and see if you landed that big Free Agent. I mean it's fine, this is a business, but as far as I've seen Gags has done what was asked of him in waiting in faith. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I am saying that you've lost the ability to blame a player cause he moved on too quick.
Still, I'm sure Simon will find a spot somewhere else. - flyler
There is zero reason not to bring this Gagne for skilled depth alone. Don't over do it with the pay or years. What do you have to lose by giving him a pro tryout? Bring him back! |

I think far too many questions regarding injuries, goaltending, and defensive ability by the forwards.
To think everything will go completely right... Not so sure. |

Hahaha, yeah none are that bad. All of them deal with fear usually of children. But have some seriously dark real world plots usually going on as background. None of it is meant for kids. And none are slasher flicks... Although there is violence.
EDIT: Was the movie you referenced above "Being John Malkovich"? |

Whichever one deserves it the most, if outplayed by Thomas. |

I know the Hellboy series got good reviews, but I'm not down for them. I know Pan's Labyrinth was supposed to be good, never saw it. Any similiarities to The Golden Compass (which should have been only Part I)? |

No, it has a shorter title. Maybe a color or a number in it. I think it maybe came out about a year or so ago, I know you guys were talking about it one day. |

Yeah Pan's Labyrinth makes the Golden Compass look like a Sun afternoon picnic with the family. It's much, much darker. Of course I thought they "disneyfied" the Golden Gompass. |

They definitely did. It's actually (for me, at least) a pretty dark book. I took a quick look at Pan's Labyrinth. It sorta sounds like Coraline, actually, although probably much darker. |
