Remember, I said one of my favorites.
LOTR would certainly be in the running as would Heinlen's Stranger in a Strange Land. However the top dog on my list would have to be Frank Herbert's original Dune. The depth and scope of that story is amazing. The sequels weren't as good, though God Emperor of Dune came pretty close, and the stuff his son later put out is pretty weak, but the original is a fantastic read and just a great story. |

Brendan Morrow is still unsigned.
Last year around the deadline I was advocating for adding Morrow + Murray in this off-season to boost the team's depth, grit and the proper veteran leadership.
I'd welcome Morrow on to the team. The young crew still needs to be groomed to play the right way.

What do you think about Damien Brunner? For the reported money they were going to offer Cleary I would rather take a chance, albeit with some risk, on Brunner.
This is a big year for Couts - at some point he either becomes a shut-down guy or a true two-way forward that can chip in as much on the offensive side of the red line as the D. Giving him more offensive-minded wingers would be a huge step in putting him a good position to become that two-way guy.
I also like have a speedier forward on Vinnie's line.

Even over LOTR, I'll take Ender's Game. It's not as developed as LOTR, but it's just a great story. Also, one thing about reading LOTR is that you have to decide to do it. Ender's Game is a book you can pick up and read in about 2-3 hours. That said, the character development on the main characters (Ender, Valentine, Peter, and Bonzo) is done remarkably well.
I've never read Dune, as it just really didn't seem appealing to me plot-wise. Truthfully, I've been really into Robert E. Howard, first for Conan, but his Kull and Solomon Kane stuff is also great. I guess I'm not really a big novel kind of guy. |

Speaking about great stories being brought to the big screen, you might not get this, but FlyersGrace will, They are doing a Warcraft movie. I can't wait to see Azeroth on the big screen. Unfortunately we have to follow a stupid group of alliance noobs around.....
Imagine that in the hands of Wheaton or Rami. Would even like Peter Jackson to take a swing. I loved his work on the LOTR series. |

he's 20, this isn't the year that his offensive potential is permanently realized. Also, if Brunner were to be signed he'd be taking 3rd line honors. Schenn is plenty speedy. |

LOTR books are often overhyped. Tolkien was a linguist. His storytelling ability was only sub-par. He was not a great writer, but he had a great vision. And that vision influenced just about every fantasy book out there.
I'll never consider him a great writer, rather a great literary influence.
Dune on the other hand. Nice choice. The book blows every movie rendition away. |

By far!
I remember when the first Dune film came out, I was so disappointed. The Sci-fi mini series was a bit better, but still paled in comparison to the book |

I actually like many of the Dune movies. But I like the book better.
Another amazing series I just wrapped up for the nth time. Hyperion by Dan Simmons. So good. I go back and read it every few years. It has a lot of the flavor of Dune or Ender's game...
I also like Heroes Die by Michael Stover. For that gamer crowd. Youarewrong would probably love it. Very graphic and VERY well written. |

I just recently saw Laughton at the King of Prussia mall and I will tell you this, the kid still needs to put on size, he is not very big at all and doesnt have much noticeable muscle. He could use some more time in the gym for sure. |
