Is the source the comments from this section ? lol... I'm thinking their has to be more to this trade, Edler is worth more than Plekanek.

Well, maybe because they have one 1st pair (of which a half will soon be gone) and 3 3rd pairs. Edler would make a lot of sense for the Habs.

I wonder how many picks are coming to Vancouver

He sure would fill the post-Markov void. For the next few years:
PK - Emelin
Tinordi- Edler
Gorges - Beaulieu

As opposed to the crock that goes on in Esplen's blogs on a daily bases?

I'm actually surprised that we haven't seen an Elder/Luongoat for Price, PK, Patch, Eller and 14 1sts proposal yet. Sadly, that might only be because it's 5:23am in Van.

Care to explain this a bit more? Coming from a Jets fan it makes it a bit funnier too.

If its plek then MG needs to get fired
Id rather keep Edler

- RF_4eva

He probably needed to get fired a few years ago...

because with Emelin out, the Habs only have 2 legit top 4 defenders in the lineup.

The bigger question is why do the 'Nucks need to get softer ?

I'm all for getting Edler, but MB needs to have a plan on what to do with the 47 other dman on the team. Who's out? To make the deal more doable, Vancouver will probably get a D back too.

Edler is a good D obviously... But Pleck is one of the most underevaluated player in the NHL... a very reliable 2nd center... having played his career with better wingers Pleck would be a star in the NHL... it would leave a huge hole in the Habs lineup...

I don't mind trading away Plek, just not this year. We currently don't have anyone to take the #1 centre role yet. I would wait after this year, see how Galchenyuk is doing and give him the job. I think Plek needs to be traded before the end of his contract so we can get max value from him and get something really good to fill the team's biggest needs

yeah that's the problem with an Edler-Plekanec swap. we improve our D big time but then our centre depth is finished... unless AG moves to centre right away.

disagree with that. Plekanec's problems have not been his wingers. he's had decent enough wingers... guys who have scored 25-35 goals. problem is that he's always been tasked with shutting down the opposing team's top lines. to do what he does, and contribute 55-60 points on offence... not many better 2-way players.

I think it be too much to ask from AG. He will be fine at centre, but 1st centre duty is lot to ask for a 2nd year with 50 some NHL experience. I would let him develop before.

Doing the swap would require additional moves for habs, too many D. Maybe ship Markov somewhere for a centre? Or let either briere or AG play centre, but that way I feel that the roster wont be as balance as it were.

It also leaves the habs with no 2-way or defensive minded centers. Eller is developping a solid 2-way game but he isn't there yet.
