The Habs need an upgrade on D going forward. They are losing Markov next year. Tinordi, Beaulieu, PK, Gorges, Emelin is a solid core in a couple of years but right now, 3 of those 5 are either rookies or crippled

It also leaves the habs with no 2-way or defensive minded centers. Eller is developping a solid 2-way game but he isn't there yet.

I agree too. Galchenyuk and Eller will be training their definitive role this year as 1st and 2nd center. But I would not be comfortable to let them start the season right away on this role. I would like to see Chucky and Briere sharing 1st line center duty this year on a line with MaxPac.

Edler won't get traded unless there is another top 4 d coming back. Right now the Canucks have 4 guys battling for the last 2 spots - Tanev (sophomore), Corrado(rookie), Yanik Weber (#7 in mtl last year) and Andrew Alberts who tops out at a 6-7 guy.

Losing Edler at this point would destroy the Canucks back end.

Not to mention the Canucks currently have Richardson, Horvat, Schroeder, and Santorelli battling for the last 2 center positions. While Plek would be an upgrade on all those guys, trading Edler for a guy who will end up on the 3rd line doesn't make sense.

In NY Torts only had to put up with Brooks. Vancouver has about a dozen guys in the same league as him.

Regardless of how the Canucks play this year it will be an entertaining season for sure.

The Canucks need a top 6 forward far more than another top 4 D.

If they needed a top 4 D, they'd keep Edler.

Tomas Plekanec will not become a Canuck for Alex Edler straight up. Canadiens would have to throw in Gallagher at least into the pot or a similar younger roster player.
