But I am pretty sure it has never happen to any other GM or franchise besides Homer. Ever. - MBFlyerfan
It happened to Feaster -- they brought in Brian Burke to oversee him.
It happened to Sherman -- they brought in Sakic and Roy to oversee him.
Homer's done it 5 times -- they brought in Hextall to work under him.

Are you saying that the reason they brought in Hextall is due to the so called pattern of mistakes that you claim Holmgren has? |

Talbot's initial contract structure rejected... apparently an arithmetic fail, or a failure to understand the updated structuring rules.
Homer thought Bartulis had another year of waiver exemption back in 2010 (maybe 2011?) when he actually didn't... if Bill (and fans) hadn't caught it, that might have been a nasty surprise.
Hyka, as I mentioned above. They drafted Mathers in the 7th-round assuming Hyka could be acquired via PTO -> UFA. BSH was the first to uncover that they actually couldn't, I believe. If they had known, they would have taken Hyka and then signed Mathers as a UFA and gotten both -- as it turns out, LA drafted Hyka in the next draft.
Pronger's mistaken 35+ contract.
Now, Laughton. - Tomahawk
So 4 minor issues (they would have signed Pronger anyway) over the course of 7+ seasons is a pattern?
The Talbot issue was moot, as they had to readjust 1 number.
Bartulis ended up having to get bought out, I'd have no issue if he got claimed
Hyka, I'll give you.
Laughton, who knows what the deal is. |

Can you imagine is some other franchise had done it? I mean, imagine if a GM out there messed up something so simple and forgetting to tender offers to their RFAs. What a joke a franchise like that would be. - jmatchett383
Or what if a GM forgot to sign free agents because he went to do charity stuff on FA day instead? |

So you can guarantee that the next f-up won't be something major, like the O'Reilly fiasco? Feaster technically dodged that bullet... should he not be shamed for it then? |

No more than you can guarantee it will. And Feaster DID catch a lot of flak for it. |

If and when that happens, then criticism will be warranted. Or should we do that proactively based on that it might happen? |

If he didn't have the stature in the league that he had or if he worked in a more demanding/visible market, would Lou Lamoriello have caught more heat for the problems with the Kovalchuk contract?
That contract cost the franchise money and draft picks.

Feaster just ended up w/ some pie on his face... but still, one innocent oversight had them a hair away from losing a lottery pick... and that's pretty much been the only CBA-related mistake of Feaster's tenure.
So yeah, just because none of Homer's f-ups have killed the Flyers yet, doesn't mean we should gloss over the fact that he keeps making innocent oversights, and assume that the consequences will continue to always be minor. |

No one has glossed it over. What has been done is that the pattern that you claim exists, has been refuted. And since to this point, the mistakes made have been very minor, so there is a true pattern of not making mistakes that have major consequences.
Holmgren incorrectly stating to the press that the Pronger contract is not a 35+ deal, actually isn't even truly a mistake. It had zero bearing on anything that happened. Unless you want to speculate that the Flyers would not have made the Pronger deal if they had known that re-signing him, would be a 35+ contract. |

I don't there was a valid point to it. The mistakes that you point out had nothing to do with the Flyers bringing Hextall in, in my opinion. |

To be fair, that seems more like a problem of ownership getting too involved. Kind of like the Bryzgalov debacle. |

Two things insulate lou from the kovalchuk mess, 1 it seems that it was an ownership mandated deal ala bryzgalov. And 2 hes got 3 cups. |

I'm not going to damn him yet for something he hasn't done. If he keeps having to switch numbers on contracts to bottom-6 players, misuses an occasional 7th round pick, and is unsure as to whether a player can or cannot play in tryouts on multiple years, I'll deal with that 4 times in 7+ years. |

He technically didn't break any rules... he just pushed the back-diving deal to a level it's never gone before, and league arbitrarily decided to draw a line in the sand there.
It could just have easily been the Pronger deal, or Lecavalier deal, or Luongo deal that could have served as the proverbial straw. |
