7 years $42M for RNH
Sorry, I'm just not sold on him like I am with Hall and Eberle. Just something that seems lacking in him. |

Here is a question. Would you be okay with retiring 88? - youarewrong
Flyers are pretty clear they won't retire a number for a guy who isn't in the HHOF. He'll be in the Flyers HOF and have a night at some point. But unless he's in the HHOF he won't have 88 retired. |

That's the extreme case, but yeah I see that side of it. i didn't say it was the only thing that counted, just that it counted the most. McNabb's failure to win, especially given so many chances, is my issue with him.
Is Dilfer better than McNabb? Probably not, but he made the most of his chance to win. McNabb did not. Some of that is luck, some is stuff beyond McNabb's control, but some of it is on McNabb too. That's why I feel he falls short of "best ever" on the Eagles, but he's close. He does have great stats. |

Dilfer signed with the team that had the best defense in the league, so long as he managed to get them 14 points, they generally won.
In the Super Bowl Era, McNabb is easily the best Eagles QB. He put up good numbers, won playoff games and got his team deep in the playoffs every year, with a receiving corps that was mediocre on it's best day.
He wasn't perfect, but neither were his teams or his coach for that matter. |

I agree with almost all of that. If you limit it to superbowl era, he gets the nod. pretty sad commentary on the eagles as a franchise, but I'll agree with that. |

It's not really a sad commentary, McNabb was a pretty good QB. Far worse QBs than him have won Super Bowls. Guys like Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Doug Williams.
Winning is part of the equasion, but it can't be the most important part |

McNabb was ill fitted for the west coast offense scheme. Obviously not bad QB by any stretch of the imagination, he just was forced to play in a system that wasn't his strength.
Once his running game was cut back, he struggled even more. |

Ashbee's number was retired out of sentimental reasons. Clarke and Parent were honored as the faces of the Cup teams. Bill Barber and Mark Howe had to wait several years before their numbers were retired.
Legendary Flyers like Brian Dobbin and Frantisek Kucera wore numbers 7 and 2 before Howe & Barber were inducted into the HHOF and got their numbers hung from the ceiling |

As successful as Reid was, he always seemed to try to fit guys to his system, rather than adapt his system to better fit his guys |

What I meant was that it's sad they don't have a Super Bowl winner since 1960 so that someone who has actually won one can lay claim to the best ever title. McNabb was pretty good - no arguments. If he had a different personality, better leadership skills, he'd have had more big game wins. His physical skills were on a par with many of the greats. It's the other areas that let him down.
It's just one example, but can you imagine any scenario where during a key point in a critical game, someone like Tom Brady, or Joe Montana, or any other QB for that matter picks up the bench phone on the opposing team's sideline and pretends to make a call? And draws a penalty in the process? I can't. That one incident certainly doesn't define his career. But it's indicative of the kind of brain fart, or childishness, or whatever you want to call it that kept him from being the kind of leader that wins big games more than he loses. That's my biggest issue with McNabb. Not his physical skills, stats, or even his overall record. As good as he was, he could have been so much better if he wasn't such a goofball. |

that was early and a special circumstance. E didn't die in the middle of his career. It is very unlikely another number will be retired who is not in the HHOF.
I don't think Neely belongs in the HHOF. TK should be in the Flyers HOF, and is there. |
