I don't understand why it can't be treated like an internship. |

The Flyers can demote Schenn/Couturier/Rosehill until they're right under the cap, use closer to the full LTIR for Pronger, and recall those 3 and still have significant room to add a player at the TDL. Remember, acquiring a player means you only have to pay the pro-rated portion tot he cap, not a full one. - jmatchett383
You can't bank LTIR cap space, so no you wont have any money if your using up Prongers LTIR space. |

The fact the Flyers have no forwards making 5 million, and both goalies making peanuts, suggests the defense core is grossly overpaid. - PLindbergh31
They are, but Meszaros and Timonen likely won't be here past this season. |

I know right. They don't get paid for training camp anyway. NCAA blows. |

You can't really look at it that way. I hate when people want to trade dmen just because they overall unit costs a lot. It's not like the Flyers are sacraficing money for forwards in order to acquire more defenseman.
Pronger isn't playing while Mez and Timmo have one year left. Next season when G and, hopefully, Read make more money the defense spending ( ) will go down. - PhillySportsGuy
Sure I can look at it that way. The Flyers have 26 million of this years payroll tied up in their defense. For that kind of coin, there shouldn't be a ton of question marks. |

I think it also has to do with missed classes. School is happening right now. |

There wouldn't be any question marks or that much money committed if Pronger was healthy. That's what it boils down to. |

Lets talk about this season though. What does this team need more. Meszaros with a 4 million cap hit and injury problems with 1 year left or Grossmann who is cheaper on the cap hit, and signed longer, and is a leaders in blocked shots. Something no-one else except Schenn is willing to do on this team of defenders... - youarewrong
U paint mezaros as not wanted and a piece of crap and grossman as a stud ..... I think u were correct when u stated what a team needs....didn't Carolina just lose their puck moving dman for the year and should be back next....that said 3 years back mezaros was one of the flyers best man, in his role....that said, I would like to keep both and juggle the cap so we can increase their trade value for a mid season trade.....just think if we can get both healthy and playing well...we can trade or some assets, instead of a bag of pucks. |

Pronger isn't healthy, thank God Meszaros and Grossmann are made of titanium to make up for it. |

It all starts with Pronger getting injured. If he was healthy I doubt they would have signed Streit and Grossmann and the defense might look like this.
Pronger Coburn
Timonen Schenn
Meszaros Gustafsson |

With a healthy Pronger, they wouldn't have traded for Grossmann. This is pointless to argue. The cap needs to be viewed as a whole. You can't divide it up in terms of spending certain amounts on each position. They have a young forward group, so they don't cost as much. Hopefully, when the forwards start costing more, the young defenseman come up and contribute. At that point, the team will be spending much more on forwards. |

Yeah, Pronger-Schenn & Timonen-Coburn might have been better pairings. Gus and Mez could onlybe playing 15-16 minutes a night... this is getting depressing.
Morin, Hagg and Gostisbehere should all be on the team two years from now. Three cheapies. |

Counting on all 3 progressing is good and all, but realistically, only 2 (hopefully) will probably be ready for full-time NHL work in2 years. |

Hopefully. Could be wishful thinking. Flyers haven't developed a homegrown d-man in ages, to expect all three of these players to pan out might be unrealistic.
I think Gostisbehere is too small. Perhaps he could be a Freddy Meyer type. |

And they won't be contributing on a top 4 level. They will need to be shielded. In 3-5 years, the forwards like Voracek, Schenn and Couts will really start to cost money, so it would be nice if the young Dmen can be real everyday defenseman in 3-5 years. We can also assume the cap is going up. |
