....................Preseason.

Frankly, if the Oilers failed to beat the Nucks in both those games the situation would be dire in Edm as you guys have iced the majority of the big guns while in contrast Vancouver is experimenting with youth, depth and goons.

Regardless of Lou's play, we have a very solid D, and those pretty little passing plays will be few and far between come the regular season.

Keep things in perspective...

Making assumptions about ANYTHING in the pre-season is a fools errand. Perspective is right.

Playing with Hall will certainly help you out in that area... You're going to get garbage goals. Smyth is slow, and will be absolutely horrid if he makes it to mid-season.

Well, Brown is not a set up man, nor is any of the bottom 6 we had last year.. Can't expect hom to score if there is no playmakers. It's just like Neal and Malkin

We might have to take chances on other teams cuts... just like we did with jones.

Didn't crosby play with a broken jaw?

- Killbot460

Sure look at Eberle last season... He played with a broken hand, sprained ribs, a pulled groin, a charlie horse, herpes, mono, mad cow, and flesh eating bacteria.

Smyth's terrible skating was absolutely noticeable last season... He simply could not keep up with the play. He better contact Ovechkin's steroid supplier if he wants to make a difference on this team... And if Eakins puts him in our top 6 (when the team is healthy) he's a (frank)ing idiot.

True, maybe, but at the same time you guys also iced arguably one of the best offensive lines in the game and a suitable defensive core that game, along with one of the leagues "elite" goaltenders, to say we should have won easily is taking a lot away from your pros who have been playing this game a whole lot longer than our young guys who had very little trouble beating them.
- benmacw

Sure, the Sedins did play, as did Lou and i believe Hamhuis, apart from that I'm pretty sure it was much the same roster as last night. I am not trying to discredit the wins, as the Oils offense was flying in an extremely entertaining manner however i do not believe it is just to completely discredit Vancouver after two preseason games.

On another note Perron is looking like a steal, could really complement that young roster, could he not shift to center in Gagner's absence?

Eakins doesn't really believe in thugs who can only throw.
he wants guys that can make some sort of contribution in game as well.

that was brutal by weise, but I assume he's gonna do that whether we have Macintyre on the bench for 58 mins a night or not.

- hugefemale dog77

My complaint is the MacT knows the importance of bigger guys who can play in today's game but he hasn't addressed this issue. The days of the thugs are gone, but there's a lot of quality players who are big and can drop them if needed. If the Oil have to give up a quality offensive guy plus a prospect to get a player like that, it's got to be done. Ideally, I'd like someone like Brent Burns.

What do you suspend him for exactly? Tell me please.

Relentlessly dirty team, god get a grip.

- rune_74

Unfortunately it is difficult to suspend him for that play because it's hard to prove his intent. It was just a play that was utterly stupid, lazy and careless...very similar to Kassian himself actually.

The Vancouver Canucks are the chirpiest, chippiest, "hit you in the back when you're not looking" team in the league. There is no doubt. It is somewhat of a culture in Vancouver...I'm sure you guys think of it as "playing with an edge" lol No, it's just dirty and spineless.

I would LOOOOOVE to be winding up at the point with these little twerps going down to block shots. It's going to be a shooting gallery for whiney little Canucks this season! I'm sure the league can't wait.

You have to agree that Kassian was deliberately trying to concuss/murder/assrape Gagner. He was probably in the midst of a roid rage.

I need to watch it again...I didn't really notice his intent at the time of the incident.

This is true actually. The first win for EDM was more realistic as most of the Canucks regulars were there. The second win wasn't so even and the Oilers simply had to dominate the Canucks...and they did.

I genuinely, sincerely see the Canucks missing the playoffs this year. The division is just too tough for them and they will probably cave under the pressure of their new coach. Edm doesn't have much more of a chance at the post season...but I see them as being able to compete more with those other teams. The Canucks season rests on Luongo's shoulders basically. He can do it though, Luongo...I am totally on his side. But the rest of the team is going to just continue the downward spiral (from the top of their very small mountain, I might add...lol)

You are right, not a lot of intent, but, in the new shannaban era, players don't always intend to hit the head, sometimes it is an accident and yet they get suspended, the point being, they are responsible and accountable for making contact to the head. I agree with you it is hard to suspend, as it is just a stupid, careless play with his stick, but how does this not compare to other stupid, careless plays where contact is made to the head without intent.

you're entitled to any projections u see fit.
but u sure it aint some nuck hate blindin ya?

on paper and based on some of the facts we know for sure;
the canucks are better than us as of today. deeper pretty much at every position, more proven, tougher, more experienced. etc etc

our kids need to take a big step forward if we're going to better than the nucks
