So what now?
Wellwood? Connolly? Malholtra?
Wait for camp to end and see where other teams are at?
Slide Smyth to center....one of the lines?
Hall
Smyth
Gordon

Jesus. They're really gonna have to rally with solid TEAM D here early on.
Who knows, maybe Nuge only misses a handful of games |

No need to panic or rush nuge back, hell Gagner with the help of Kat's secret pharmacological section, should be back and health in at least 4-7 days.
besides, the season is a marathon, not a race, won't be won or lost in the first month. |

I dig the positivity duder and am pretty level-headed about it but it is the above bolded that is cause for concern.
We all know that point is countered with the "every game is so important" and there is merit there when we're talking about playoff spots divided by a handful of wins.
But yeah, nothing much they can do about it as I'm not sure any C-level hasbin is really going to measurably help.
Gotta rally. |

Looking at past teams that have been perennial post season contestants. They rarely start of barreling out off the gates. records up till xmas are fair or poor at best. They just seem to get better as a team as the season goes. Would like to see that this year. AS A TEAM, they get better as the season goes on. Injuries are gonna happen, then we see how good the coach is at dealing with it. |

you're entitled to any projections u see fit.
but u sure it aint some nuck hate blindin ya?
on paper and based on some of the facts we know for sure;
the canucks are better than us as of today. deeper pretty much at every position, more proven, tougher, more experienced. etc etc
our kids need to take a big step forward if we're going to better than the nucks - hugefemale dog77
I think BOTH teams miss the playoffs, but the Oilers are on the uptrend and the Canucks on the down. The Oilers could possibly rally around this new Eakings-era work ethic and pull off some sort of surprise (yes, it would be a surprise). The Canucks however, I see as a recipe for disaster. They seem to be a bunch of individuals, rather soft players that play dirty rather than play hard. I really think that most of the players on this team are the types of guys that annoy the f..k out of Torts and there will be more than one coach vs. player situations this year in Vancouver. The Canucks are not a tough team, they are dirty and sneaky...Tortorella hates that.
This whole blocking shots and team first thing that he is preaching is NOT what the Canucks are about, and if Luongo doesn't save them they could be in trouble.
On paper the Canucks are better than the Oilers...probably, but there is more upside potential in Edmonton and there is a TON of downside potential for Vancouver.

The sedins, burrows, kesler, bieksa, luongo , edler, etcetc were all on the team that went to game 7 of the finals.
I dont see how they can be labelled as non team players.
And theyre bigger and tougher than the oilers are... Thats for sure.
I also find it funny when peeps call out other teams for being 'dishonorable'.
Canuck fans will tell u boston is the worst.
Oiler fans will say vancouver.
Sj will say la is.
It's all subjective and just comes down to personal team dislike.
The dishonorable diss is akin to mentioning biased referees...
And If you think oiler players like taylor hall or mike brown are above gouging ur eyes out to get ahead and win a game, ur not paying attention. |

With the lack of depth at centre, add to that 9 0f 14 games in Oct. are on the road and we could be really behind by November. Hopes for playoffs quickly vanishing for this year. |

Sign Kyle Wellwood then trade for one of Zack Smith or Jim O'Brien? I know it isn't ideal, but Wellwood can play top-6 minutes and win faceoffs while keeping up defensively, and Smith or O'Brien can solve this fourth line problem. |

Standouts for me were:
Jones: He is just a very bad hockey player with below average skill, horrible skater (like bottom 5% of the league horrible), with a decent compete level. He's a great guy in the room, but honestly, he should not crack this roster.
Nurse: I was and still am excited to see this kid develop.
Smyth: I haven't seen a lot of comments about Smytty and you know what? He looked fine, actually a little better than fine. Let's see how he does once the real season starts and then after 20 games...but for now he looks fine and not out of place.
Hemsky: I was happy to see him doing what he does best and seemingly putting all of the drama behind him. He's a great player when he wants to be.
Lack: The Van goalie looked pretty good actually.
The Vancouver Canucks in general: For a preseason game, I was pretty surprised at all of the jabs after whistles, borderline charging penalty hits, and beaking back and forth after whistles and from the benches. After watching Ranger do his little "kick shot" in the shootout in the Toronto game and both the Sabres and Leafs having a bit of fun in their preseason game, to watch the Canucks running guys in the preseason is, well, typical.
Another interesting thought I had was that I wonder how excited the teams in the west are, to get to fire point blank shots at the chipiest smart-aass team in the league now that their strategy is to drop in front of shots more! I don't think you will see many point shots being bailed-out of in mid windup..."oh, it's Burrows....let er RIP!" lol - JLO961
What do you expect?
They dressed nearly an entire team of bottom 6 grinders against an extremely talented group of forwards—playing physical was the only slim chance they had to keep this game within reach.
Plus, all of these guys are competing for a roster spot. Why would you expect them to go in any softer than a regular season game?
Also, other than the Weise attempt on Hall, which deserves supplementary discipline, there were no egregiously dangerous hits/attempts.
Very good game by the Oiler forwards.
Score probably would have been worse if Lack hadn't played well. |

The Sedins are neither big nor tough. Mentally Luongo seems to fall apart at the wrong time. Kesler seems fond of disappearing acts. I like Bieksa and Edler though. |

I never said the sedins were big or tough.
Kesler has been injured for the best part of 2 seasons. When healthy hes dominant. Like he was in their cup run.

maybe not center but look at are problems in general... size. tons of big forwards go through waivers. give a guy a chance while we have injuries. Never know it may pan out. If not OKC here he comes. - Killbot460
It's not just that easy. The Oilers are almost always at or very close to the contract limit set by the NHL. Would you rather they grab one of these experiments only to have it fail and them be unable to add another contract when an actually good player became available? |

The Kassian incident may not have been a dangerous hit, but because he missed and lost control of his stick, it became a dangerous (and VERY costly) play. Whether intentional or not, that play is suspendable and should have resulted in a suspension for Kassian (regardless of length). |
