The Kassian incident may not have been a dangerous hit, but because he missed and lost control of his stick, it became a dangerous (and VERY costly) play. Whether intentional or not, that play is suspendable and should have resulted in a suspension for Kassian (regardless of length).

No way it's a suspension.

It was a careless and dangerous play, but there was no intent.

It's a 4 minute PP.

Nope. He'll get at least 47 games for it.

Good thing Shanahan has a video replay to provide context and not just my vague description

I disagree. A player is responsible for his stick and whatever damage it may cause during play. In this instance, Kassian wasn't able to control his stick upon missing the check intended for Gagner, and as a result, there was a fairly severe injury on the play. If it isn't suspendable, it's at least reviewable.

This Gagner injury has me sh1tting bricks. Maybe Mac T should overpay for a Center. I hate to trade away good pieces from the barons, but how many of these guys will actually make the club?
A guy like Brandon Dubinski would be helpful right now, and could be a useful utility forward going forward. Last I heard he wasn't playing much in Columbus (last year).

maybe a 5 min at most IMO. Just careless not intentional.

weise maybe a couple games not more than 1-3. He clearly went head hunting.

Intent to injure doesn't invalidate a suspension. It plays into the length, but there have been a number of times where intent wasn't a factor in a suspended play. Consider Hall's knee-on-knee collision that cost him two games. There wasn't intent to injure, just a misplaced hit by an inexperienced hitter. Intent is not the be-all end-all of suspensions.

I agree. Just saying when I saw it I thought they would give him a major for a reckless play but not a suspension.

Why not put a package together for Stepan? Specially now that we are out both a 1st and 2nd line center.

I dunno man, Mac-T has no cards here - at all.

Maybe a UFA like Wellwood is the best course of action...

Maybe its time for MacT to make one of those bold moves he talked about and dump a first round pick and a good prospect (Marincin, klefbom maybe) for him. The rangers are cash strapped are they not? Could help both teams as they are having trouble signing Stepan anyway i thought.

Yeah fair enough. not sure I would want to part ways with Bomb now...tough call if/when RNH is ready after 5 games. I understand even then we lack C depth but perhaps Ruttagers post earlier holds some weight: No Panic. Stay close to the pack, get healthy and make headway.

Kassian missed a hit along the boards and lost control of his stick as he backed into the boards. His stick swung unintentionally & uncontrollably and smoked Gagner across the mouth. Definitely a big bummer for Gagner and the Oilers. Most definitely careless on Kassian's part but I'm sure it was without malice.

Precisely. Bold moves are one thing. Kneejerk moves lacking foresight are another. If they gave up one of our best future blueline prospects for a temporary solution at center I would be furious.

They both have meetings with the NHL on Monday because of this.

Any chance we can reverse that trade with Dallas? We sure could use a guy like Horcoff on our 2nd line about now.
