I hope Mackinnon ends the season as the 2nd line center. The Avs are making a huge mistake if they don't trade Stastny at the deadline. There is no way he signs with the team this offseason with Duchene and Mackinnon being the obvious long term plan down the middle.
As a free agent, he's going to get longer term, more money, and more ice time. In Colorado he would end up on the 3rd line, taking mainly defensive zone draws and watching his stats and value continue to go down.

If Mackinnon has trouble adapting to the pro game and needs more time on the 3rd line then move O'Reilly to 2nd line center until he's ready. Losing Stastny for nothing would be bad for this team.

Varly dominated with a bunch of NO ONE playing in front of him.

A few days ago I ruffeled a caps fans feathers when I talked about Varly, saying apparently from Roy and Allaire summer speeches about him when they had the Switzerland work out that they didnt like how many bad habits he had from previous goalie coaches, such as his glove hand being too low.

Resulted in him saying he is junk, they got rid of him bc he sucked, good times.

I think they will trade Stastny, Roy has already called him out saying he has an A on his sweater so its time he steps up and earns it. If he doesnt perform with this team and system there is no way they offer him a contract, I think they ship him off before the Olympics

Downie is ideal for our first line, wont look out of place, since he does have some offensive abilities, he creates space down low with his physical play, and has chemistry with O'Reilly already.

PAP being with MacKinnon to start the year also is a good move, will help boost Mac's confidence with a more skilled winger helping in the point production. Just hope that comes quick out of the gate this season so he isnt snake bitten trying to score his first NHL goal/point and having it be a distraction
