Hall's FO% is better than Giroux's.
Something like 57% to 54% I believe. - Giroux_Is_God
Ya, but Giroux led the league in faceoffs taken and faceoffs won last year. At this point he's the better faceoff guy. |

No, he isn't. Hall wins a higher percentage of his faceoffs. Giroux took more last year because they had nobody else that Laviolette trusted |

There's no commentary or score overlays....and almost no regulars dressed for the Flyers. No Giroux, Lecavalier, Voracek, Timonen...definitely the B team tonight |

There is seriously no reason for Gill or Hall to make this team.
We need to role the dice with our young players in Lauridsen and VdV for depth purposes. The former won't even make the team anyways but can easily serve as the club's eight blue-liner while also sharpening his skills in the minors.
Laughton I'm indifferent about. Part of me wants to see him on this team but it wouldn't hurt for him to go back to the OHL for the year and play for Canada in WJC either.
One last note - I'm disappointed Cousins didn't make the team as a 4th line winger. - LordStanley88
Certainly there is a very good reason why Hall should make the team. Last Season, because Giroux was the only reliable face-off option on the team. He had to take far too many faceoffs and defensive zone starts. Having a veteran like Hall, who can take some of that off of Giroux, will allow Giroux to play in more offensive situations and offensive zone starts. Which will make the team better. Hall is also a solid player on the PK. Which can also help reduce the amount of time Giroux spends on the PK.
Cousins was an early cut, which is a clear indicator that he's not close to NHL ready.

The best way is to look at percentage. That's an equal comparison. Giroux is solid on draws. But he's not as good as Hall is. Hall is a faceoff specialist. |

Awesome thanks, got it working from the Devils Page, and for doing so the first thing I see is Mason give up a goal. |

I think Max Talbot will. He's been playing third line as much as Raffl. Definitely possible Raffl is the 3rd line LW, with Talbot dropping to 4th line, though - Jsaquella
I would hope that is the case. I think Raffl would be wasted on the 4th line - not that I'm not a Talbot fan but I'm hoping that Couts will get to play with some more skilled wingers this season. |

Agreed, I like him long-term though and think he could possibly fill a 4th-line role as early as sometime this season.
I'd personally keep Vandevelde over Hall because the former is the better skater of the two, hence my reluctance to hold onto the latter in spite of his clear dominance at the dot. |

No that means lavy just marched him out there because he had no one else better. Would you be sending Briere out there to take a defensive zone draw? Or Couturier? Total wins is a skewed number, because of the sheer amount of draws he took.
With Vinny in the fold, G won't be taking as many draws. Guarantee he won't be leading the NHL in faceoff wins this season.
I spent the last 10 minutes googling looking for career faceoff stats and found nothing. That being said, I'm pretty positive Hall's FO% has G's beat on a yearly basis. |

Does that change the fact that he took a huge number of faceoffs and therby proved himself to be one of the top faceoff guys in the league?
Last year the top 10 faceoffs guys who took more than 700 faceoffs
1. Bergeron
2. Toews
3. Thornton
4. Vermette
5. Zajac
6. Gordon
7. Stoll
8. Datsyuk
9. Duchene
10. Giroux (with 300 more faceoffs taken than Duchene) |
