Would like to see the kids all get close to they're 9 games. The stiffer competition is a learning experience that helps them grow as players.

Wooot!! Stanley Cup here we come!!! Suck it AV!!!

Seriously though:

- Luongo is a way better goalie when we get outshot. Great game by him tonight and I think he'll look more comfortable as a 60-65 game guy again..I know all goalies say they play better with more work but it seems especially true for him. Didn't belly flop either tonight.

- Horvat and Shinkaruk need to get stronger, nice goal by Hunter but I saw after that it was a deflection, but still he's been more impressive than Horvat overall. I bet both ill get regular season action though. I'd put my money on Shinkaruk over Horvat if I had to bet on one making it over the other this season.

- Rangers looked gassed and sloppy so it's hard to get too excited.

- I agree with Todd that Corrado is clearly better than Alberts and Weber. And Horvat doesn't look ready, but I think that both he and Shinkaruk will be on the opening roster. But that can only happen if Alberts is waived or Corrado gets sent down.

- Dorsett is also a punk, was nice to see Bieksa finally drop the gloves with him...the dude was running around after Hamhuis and Horvat...

- Still think that the 3LC and 2nd line will hurt this team, but defense and goaltending is good enough.

- Edit: I really liked the Shinkaruk-Santorelli-Booth line. There's some potential there IMO, lots of speed and decent chemistry.

- Still think Burrows plays the best with the Sedins, chemsitry all 3 have is just better than what they have with Hansen and Kassian. He's flat out smarter than Hansen and Kassian.

I'll post a blog tomorrow, have a project to do for my marketing class tonight.

Ugh, Corrado better be back up soon. Alberts is awful. Weber is okay I guess. Not a fair move to Frankie IMO, he clearly beat out Alberts but I guess they didn't want to lose Alberts on waivers.

that is a pretty awful decision, FC was heaps better than the other two.

Has to be purely based on contract/waiver eligibility situation, talent-wise he's clearly ahead of Weber and Alberts. I hope we see him back up real soon.

I just don't even get the need to hold on to Alberts though. If we lost him via waivers, would it be that bad? I get the need for spare defense but seriously? Was horrible during the pre season.

Totally agree, but I guess they like his size against bigger teams? And they're probably thinking that worst case scenario is that Alberts gets claimed and if one or 2 of the regular d-men go out then they're lacking experienced guys to step in? I don't agree with that line of thinking personally, this team needs to ice it's best possible lineup on opening night.

Alberts is bloody horrendous. On a bright note, Santorelli looks fantastic. I'd like to see a Booth / Santorelli / Hansen or Higgins third line...

torts kept stu fuggin bickel up with the rangers just because of his size/toughness. it was frustrating whenever he dressed, especially when it was clear torts didn't really trust him (played him 3 minutes total in a triple overtime playoff game), but he always loved the option of having a big, tough player like him.

Booth and Santorelli together looked promising together. Let's just hope he can play half a season at least.

Sounds like Alberts will be the new Stu Bickel then.

i didn't see the game (NYR blacked out in buffalo NY...fck the police for force-feeding us the sabres) but it sounded like we played well offensively with the 41 shots, luongo was amazing, and hank had a pretty bad game. is that accurate?

I wish. Haven't heard anything at all from anyone. I'll still be blogging during the season regardless, probably not daily though unless I actually get hired.

I'm going to have one up with my fantasy sleepers and busts after the HB Canuck Pool drafts.

Most of the shots were from the outside, but I agree that usually 40+ shots isn't a bad night. AV is definitely a big percentages/odds guy so it doesn't surprise me that he said that, but if your team lost 5-0 it can't just be pure puck luck. Honestly, I hope the coaching switch works out well for both teams, but as a fan it was frustrating to listen to him after losses, he almost seemed content at times, but other times you could tell when he was pissed.
