Too true.
As a question about what the move means, obviously the Flyers want to see what Laughton can do in the big show for more than a 4 game period, regardless if they can or cannot keep him for longer than the 9 games without burning the year of his ELC. I know the ELC is made to be a joke between some around here but, in a NHL Cap era, it matters enough for it to be a part of the discussion. But like I said, regardless I think the Flyers want to see what he can do. I guess it just comes down to whether they slot him on the 3rd or 4th line. Talbot has looked good this year, he's been shooting the puck like his first year when he vastly exceeded expectations. So it's a tough call. Wouldn't mind Lavy putting him on the 3rd line and telling him to just forecheck hard and play defensive minded, the offense will come. But it's Lavy and this is the Flyers, so let's trade for John Mitchell and keep Laughton as the 14th forward behind Rosehill. |

Rosehill is a winger, maybe? Could this mean Laughton is the 4C? |

Has anyone seen Mitchell play? Having a +5 on the Avalanche is no small thing. if Mitchell is an upgrade on the 3rd line I'd do it, if not I'd wait. |

I am assuming because they are waived does not entirely mean that atleast Hall would not be on opening night roster, also maybe that means that Laughton will be 4th line center and that a trade of Mez or Grossman is not imminent as they free up some cap space elsewhere.

think he's a solid 3rd liner. If we can trade Mez and get a guy like Mitchell, then more power to Homer. It'd be a good move. |

I also hope they don't play Laughton At 4th line center. He'd benefit so much more being a 1st line C in Junior
3rd line wing makes all the Sense in the world for a super shutdown line of Laughts-Couts-Read but Lavy will play Talbot as 3rd line LW and Laughton with the 2 goons |

Cap move, methinks. - JAKEw1234
According to Capgeek after these waivers the Flyers are $16,022 over the Cap not counting bonuses. Not sure what the penalty is for beig over that amount, but they would definitely maximize Pronger's LTIR. Then if they were able to trade Mez for Mitchell they would save an additional $2.9 million which gives them a decent amount of room. |

The real problem is that they keep taking 1-step forward and then 1-2 steps back each time they decide to make another change in direction.
Every time a core seems poised to capitalize on hard lessons learned together, it's torn to pieces in order to add that next critical 'missing piece', or in the subsequent ripple effects.
I'm sure the same will happen with this current young core... you can bet that a majority of LSchenn/BSchenn/Read/Couturier/Voracek/Simmonds won't be here in 3-4 years time, and probably right as they become comfortable and get the hang of winning together.
For Snider, patience is a four letter word. Until that changes, this team is most likely f'ed. - Tomahawk
I see it completely differently. This team is built around some excellent young players, and a boatload of talent. Sure they're missing a few pieces, but overall they have a solid nucleus. I see more of a tweaking then tearing it to pieces. They did that obviously with the Carter/Richards deals, but since then they've identified a core, and a direction. You can bail and say that the team is f'ed, but I'm still excited about this team. They have the talent. They just need to do a better job becoming a team. That's on Coaching as far as I'm concerned. I think that's the biggest issue with this team.

That's correct. Waiving a player, and assigning him to Adirondack, is two separate and different transactions.

The Penalty for not being Cap Compliant is forfeiture of games. Not going to happen.

Pronger's LTIR ($4.941,xxx - $16,111) roughly $4.77 million in cap space not counting bonuses. If they then deal Mez for Mitchell they'd get another $2.9 million in space for a total of about $7.67 million not counting who they bring back up. Of course they could lose some of the payers on Waivers, but to get the maximum space I thought they would do something likes for several weeks now. |

Yeah, after I typed that by putting Pronger on LTIR right away they'd be compliant. |

Did you use the Cap calculator to come to that total?

Or they could just trade Mez for Mitchell and not even have to put pronger on LTIR |
