Good move waiving Hall. I was terrified they would do something stupid like waive Rosehill. |

Waiving Hall doesn't mean anything unless he's claimed. I'm going to let it play out and see what happens and what the plan is before jumping to a conclusion and criticizing it prematurely. |

If you place Pronger on LTIR during the Season, it doesn't matter how close to the Cap you are, when you do it. - MJL
I guess I don't understand this clause on Capgeek. Can you explain. Let's pretend the Flyers are at the Cap and not $16K over(not sure the diff when over).
Placing a player on LTIR only provides relief if the team's cap payroll or "Averaged Club Salary" begins to exceed the upper limit. The amount of LTI relief is limited to the amount the team has gone over the cap — less the amount of cap space the team had at the time the LTIR transaction took place — and not the entire amount of the injured player's salary.
Further to the previous paragraph, eligible long-term injury space is calculated on the day the player is placed on LTIR. If the salary cap is $70.0 million and the team has a $69.0 million cap payroll the day Player A with a $4.0 million cap hit is placed on LTIR, the team's cap payroll or "Averaged Club Salary" can only exceed the cap by $3.0 million at any point thereafter.
Breakdown: $69.0M + $4.0M - $70.0M = $3.0M
This means that in order to maximize cap space, teams generally want their cap payroll or "Averaged Club Salary" to be as close to the cap as possible before putting a player on LTIR. This places critical importance around the timing of placing a player on LTIR, especially at the start of the season. |

It's the same deal that we talked about before. Placing him on LTIR before the start of the Season will limit it. The Flyers will be in LTIR on Day 1 and over the Upper Limit, so therefore, Pronger's LTIR allowance will be maxed out. If the trade Meszaros, they will wait to place Pronger on LTIR until they have to. |

But if they do it early can't they go up to an average AAV of $64.3+$4.942? If they were dead even, not over. |

I see it completely differently. This team is built around some excellent young players, and a boatload of talent. Sure they're missing a few pieces, but overall they have a solid nucleus. I see more of a tweaking then tearing it to pieces. They did that obviously with the Carter/Richards deals, but since then they've identified a core, and a direction. You can bail and say that the team is f'ed, but I'm still excited about this team. They have the talent. They just need to do a better job becoming a team. That's on Coaching as far as I'm concerned. I think that's the biggest issue with this team. - MJL
this is what i've been trying to hear for days now!! we can't be carrying this negative energy into the tournament (aka start of the season) |

They're still like a pile of clay, that needs to be molded. But it's high quality clay!

No Mas, LOL. - jstross
The key phrase is relief doesn't begin until the team begins to exceed the Upper Limit. So if they're exactly at 64.3M with Pronger on Sept 30th, and they add another player for say 1M, and place Pronger on LTIR on Sept 30th. They will be deemed to have already replaced him and it's a done deal. No more Cap space. Wait until Oct 1 at 5:00 PM ET, and they can max out his LTIR |

What do you think, Season's over already. No chance to do anything. Why even bother rooting the team on?

The training staff has stocked up on bubble wrap, crazy glue, and duct tape this year. Grossmann and Meszaros both play all 82 games. |

why sign hall just to waive him
he was one of the few who didn't look like crap yesterday
- -davies-
yea, i don't really see the logic behind that one. i'm really not usually one to complain about them keeping fighter types on the roster. but prioritizing them over useful players like hall when you have to waive someone is something i can't get behind
even if they want laughton at center, i'd take hall on the wing over both rosehill and rinaldo |

I must have miscomunicated because I was suggesting they put Pronger on LTIR after the season starts, not before. Can 10/1 start with the Flyers at $16,022 over or is there a penalty? |

I think we'll find that this was done for flexibility, and likely has to do with preparing for a potential move that is in the works. Have to let it play out and see what happens. Just because Hall was waived, doesn't mean he's not going to be on the team. Waiver take 24 hours, and every team needs to finalize their roster on Monday. So waiving anyone on Sunday is too late. |

There is no such thing as being over. Penalty is forfeiture of games. The Flyers will have to be Cap Compliant on Sept 30th.

Sorry, watching some college football games. Something has to happen then because the Flyers are $16K if the season started today. |

Almost as bold a prediction as Cubeta's fantasy predictions.
He has
Voracek scoring less than 55 points
Malkin out of top 25 in fantasy rankings
Weber ahead of Letang, Subban and Karlsson in fantasy rankings
Yakupov and Dubnyk ahead of Hall in fantasy rankings
Pacioretty with 75 points
Iginla with 35 goals |
