Yeah, let's go and carbon copy Boston, Chicago and/or LA... like we carbon copied NJ, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh (attack system, weee!).
This time, it's gonna work. - Tomahawk
Rather than copy anyone, devise a system that will better fit the players on hand.
They don't need to hire Jacques Lemaire to be a better defensive team. Hell, they shouldn't even need to fire Laviolette to do that. |

100% agree.
Detroit just does their own thing, year after year, despite the prevailing wind, and they've always managed to put forth great two-way hockey teams. |

Well, Gervais will probably stay in ADK unless there's a couple injuries. Hall might be a paper move, but Holmgren said that he wouldn't make a paper move with Schenn or Couturier...never mentioned Hall - Jsaquella
Hope the Hall move is of the paper variety and we can have him available for Wednesday. |

So 5 was a joke. We really won't know what's up untill tomorr practice and someone reports the lines I'm guessing. - AGL_91
It's kind of like the trade deadline anyway. All trades have to be finalized by 3 PM, and the late ones usually come in around 5:30. |

I'd like to see Laviolette adjust. I like him, but I think that he's stubborn to a fault in that regard.
I don't want to see Murray or Paddock or the Chief. I want them to be a good two way team that dominate possession and not get killed repeatedly by a good forecheck and trap system. |

Well see, we don't have to carbon copy their system, we just have to tweak our current system to put more of an emphasis on team D. |

The sad part of what you wrote? They have the players to do that. They absolutely have the players to do that.
The second and fourth lines are pretty much chip-and-chase. But the first and third lines absolutely should be able to carry the puck from the neutral zone into the offensive zone, with proper outlet passing. Timonen and Streit should provide that, and Coburn has shown on numerous occasions that he can carry the puck from end to end.
They shouldn't have looked as bad as they did in the preseason. They should be able to win with the players they have. |

They do, and the issues are not just Laviolette's.
I'm hoping they did what they did in preseason to hide the work they've been doing.

So we are going to dig into Pronger's LTIR money? I thought I read where if we sent down MAB too, we would have been fine? |

They would have been, but that's a bare minimum roster of 12 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies.
They were going to use Pronger's LTIR regardless, unless they could have moved Meszaros or another defenseman.
I fully expect to see them sign Hal Gill and recall Adam Hall tomorrow morning |

In the offensive zone, yes. Absolutely. He doesn't carry the puck as much anymore, though, as he's gotten older.
Some of you said it yesterday, but it might not be the worst thing to have Matt Read on that line, to carry the puck a bit.

They had to submit roster and be cap compliant by 5 PM.
The roster is:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Read
Rosehill-Laughton-Rinaldo
Timonen-Coburn
Streit-Schenn
Grossmann-Gustafsson
Meszaros
Mason
Emery
Pronger & Bourdon on IR, Pronger shifted to LTIR ASAP, which they can then utilize his full $4.91mm cap hit as LTIR exemption.

You may hope that but there's no way you believe it. Hiding stuff... that's so NFL.
Best case scenario is what Tim floated, that they took too long looking at too many players and the team never came together in the preseason. |

That's exactly why I'm not in favor of firing Laviolette, to bring in a 63 year old man who hasn't won a playoff series in nearly two decades.
If the Flyers get off to a slow start, and they want to bring in Guy Boucher, or someone of that ilk, I wouldn't be opposed to it. - PLindbergh31
The problem is that you refuse to recognize the other possibility. That it get's better under Murray. What has Guy Boucher done that's so great?

Because Hall cleared Waivers and Rosehill hasn't been waived. I don't expect Hall to stay down there long.

So most likely Hall is brought back up tomorrow, Gervais stays in adirondack and Gill is signed to be the 8th dman and to be a good influence in the locker room. I'm fine with this. Now flip Simmonds and Read for better balance, let Mez and Gus compete for the 6th D spot and drop the damn puck! |

I'm cool with it, so long as it gets more smoothly called than it was in pre-season. We've seen too many guys seriously hurt from icing races, no harm in trying to protect guys if it doesn't really affect the flow of play. |
