Yes Andy did leave him with a stable of studs to work with. Meanwhile Reid's script is familiar taking over a team with a lock down defense in place while he bumbles through his gameday plan. - Just5
Reid is playing a rack of ribs like a harmonica. He's the pied piper in KC. |

Very possible. How bout Big Red Andy Reid having last years 2-14 Chiefs 4-0, meanwhile the Chipster looks like a Super Clown. - PLindbergh31
Red left his big dump here and went to a poorly coached team w/ 5 pro bowlers |

I sure hope so, but its looking more and more like it isnt going to be the goaltenders fault this season, its the defense. Emery was a stud for Chicago and he just like every goalie in Philadelphia is getting lit up. Coincidence??? I think not - GOA88
Well the real mistake was bringing in so many players for training camp so the core players didn't have the time to really get their chemistry back. I thought that was clear in the way they played during the preseason. It may be a slow start this year because of that, but I think they will get back on the same page. |

I hope a deal gets done soon, though I'm not sure why you would trade Hall. Just doesnt make sence for me. Good PK, good at faceoffs, but can play wing. Something Fishy is going on, and I dont think its Meszaros, Grossmann, or Hall. |

Someone asked this the other day, and I thought about it. I was extremely bullish on this team after draft day, for what they would accomplish this season.
I've been a little...horrified...by how they've performed in the preseason. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous that this thing couldn't get sideways, in a hurry.
But here are five things that I am happy about heading into this season, and I hope like hell that it's enough:
1. Our special teams are elite. It's OK. We can say that without reservation. The PP and PK have been good for a few years now, and I don't care what anybody says, if your SECOND PP unit is Schenn-Lecavalier-Read-Meszaros-Streit (and the Flyers' is exactly that), then that aspect of the team is good to go.
2. The goaltending on the ice, not the goaltender off it, will be the focus of that position. Maybe that won't mean anything against Steven Stamkos on a breakaway. But I'm one of those people who believes team camaraderie means something.
3. Scott Hartnell looks like he's in really good shape, and Jakub Voracek looked faster (and his shot a little harder) before he was banged up. Add the fact that Claude Giroux looked like himself and was able to practice and play in two preseason games, and the Flyers have an honest-to-goodness No. 1 line.
4. Sean Couturier and Matt Read look like they are truly ready to do good things. Read's contract status is now a non-issue, and Couturier is simply maturing physically. Those are both good things.
5. Personally, I thought Mark Streit looks mobile and fluid, with a high skill level in moving the puck. Since I am aware of his limitations defensively, I was totally fine with how he looked in the preseason and I honestly believe a Streit-Luke Schenn pairing is going to be good for the Flyers.
Sooooo...not all is lost after a truly awful preseason. They still have the opportunity to get this thing off on the right foot on Wednesday, and I'm hoping they'll do just that. |

It is, and that's the sad part; they actually have a chance for a home playoff game. Whichever team has the best division record probably takes it. So far, it's a toss-up between the Eagles and Cowboys. |

People who are quick to criticize Mez this pre season have to remember that he has really not played much in the past 2 years because of injuries. He will take awhile to really get back into game shape and timing etc...but I think the biggest hurdle he has to overcome now is mentally. He probably deep down thinks every shift he takes could be his next one he gets injured...takes awhile and some games to get the confidence back in that area... |

i agree w/ many of these points, but it would not surprise me if, based on need, we see vinny w/ G and Jake; harts w/ couts and read/simmer and schenn centering a "3rd line" with whomever...esp if we are struggling to score 5 on 5.

First line winger getting 35 minutes a night. Will probably supplant G as captain by the Florida game. |

Yeah -- I watched Scott Hartnell pretty closely after Giroux got back into the lineup, and he was moving around really well (for him). When his (inevitable) regression starts, his skating will be the first thing to go, but he looks like he's still able to get to his spots on the ice, keep up with players like Giroux and Voracek, and is still willing to go to the nastier areas of the ice (which is usually the second thing to go for hard-nosed forwards). |

Yeah...I wish I could've said something positive about the 5v5 and coaching during the preseason, but, well...the games were broadcast. We all saw what was going down there.

And that would be totally justified -- bottom line, Brayden Schenn's gotta look like a Top 6 forward, pretty much, like, NOW. Because this thing doesn't work 5v5 without production from the second line.

The thing i most look forward to this season is lavy getting fired and murray coming in and building the foundation that will make this team a cup contender in two years. |
