i trust you because my point was that you can only really know how good a goalie truly is by watching him every single game over the course of a season or 2.
with that said, is giving up weak goals in crucial times at games -- regardless of how many epic robberies he commits in those same crucial teams -- a common issue for dubnyk? - rangerdanger94
I wont use the robbery=softie argument. I agree with ur assessment that a great goalie needs to make the ones he supposed to, plus a few a robberies.
He does have abit of a penchant for weak ones.
As far as always at crucial times, i suppose that's debateable.
Id say no to that one. First period, already up by 3, late in a tied game etc etc.
I doubt we could find hard numbers to back any contention up regarding that question.
And either way, not ideal, But Hes earned his spot thus far.
if he doesnt improve from last night and doesnt give us a chance to win night in and out,(which he has done) changes will be made. |

holy (frank) people. it was one game. Everyone is starting to sound like a bunch of retarded leaf's fans. And those people were celebrating last night as if they had just won the cup. It was the first game of the season. there are another 81 games to play. Dubnyk had a poop game, but so did our #1 star, Hall.
It is what it is. I'm sure Eakins has given them one-hell of a talk and some line changes will be made before the next game.
It's not NHL 12/13/14 etc where we can go undefeated! |

Dubnyk needed to be better, but so does the rest of the team. There was too many bad giveaways. We just about got caught a few more times with some careless passing and passes that weren't hard enough.
On the bright side this team showed a lot more toughness. It's amazing what element Perron and JJ bring to our skilled lines. JJ looks like a real gem. |

Softies or not, his save % clearly shows that he has been a top 15-20 goaltender over the last three seasons in the NHL. Yes, he has let in softies from time to time (most goalies do) but then he'll go and make a save he has absolutely no business stopping... One cancels the other out. His numbers do not lie... He has been starter quality.
If you actually listened to what the coach said, he said it was not just goaltending, it was a combination of things... And whether it's Eakin's, MacT, Jessie and the Rippers, Moses, or even God himself, I don't care what they say about 1... Yes, 1 game. 1 game... 1 game... 1 game does not erase his numbers and performances over the past 3 seasons (unless they can perfect time travel, go back in time 3-4 years ago, and (frank) Dubnyk up so he doesn't put up .916, .914, and .920 years) - laughs2907
Really? Playing no more than 47 games in a season and never having a winning record? |

Simple math suggest that guys that ranked from 15-20 aren't going to have winning records. |

Out of the top 30 goalies ranked by Sv% for last season, Excluding ones that played less than 20 games, Dubnyk is the only one with a losing record FYI |

Your point? When you are on a poop team and you are stopping pucks but your team isn't scoring it's not the goalies fault. Last night different story. |

Well it's not like the Islanders really have much to brag about...
I was excited when we signed JJ. Clearly the change of scenery and coaching has made an impact. |

Ok, but that's not what you said. You said simple math would suggest that a goalie ranked 15-20 in the league would have a losing record. That's not true |

I don't recall Miller having a winning record last year....but i may be wrong as I'm too lazy to do a google search on it. |

JJ- Hall- Yakupov (I wanna see Hall w/ Yakupov again)
Perron- Arcobello- Eberle (they looked solid)
(someone)- Gordon- Hemsky (someone acquired to compliment Gordon)
Gazdic- Acton- Brown
I was happy to see Arco go 53% on the dot so if he can keep it up then that's one problem solved. From there, Hall needs to make smarter plays, but hopefully uniting him with Yakupov and Joensuu who play hard-nosed, straight forward games will help that. Putting Hemsky on a line with grinders is the only way to effectively utilize all the tools in our line-up. He wants and can do everything to carry a line.
We need a trade to push Smytty out IMO, but I doubt that happens. - MaximumBone
Great post, man. I agree 100%. But to add to that, yak looked BAAAAD last night. He needs a kick in the ass. Maybe playing with jFinn and hall will do the trick. |

More wins that Dubnyk? that doesn't mean he had a winning record though. I'm simply inputting as too many people bash on Dubnyk. His stats last year showed he has great abilities, but it's not his fault when he had poop defense in front of him and that the offense couldn't always score. |

See PRV, Magnus. Except JJ is a big, mobile, physical guy who doesn't cross the blue line and shoot high. If he looked like this playing for them I don't get what their problem was with him. Maybe he'll slow down significantly as the games wear on... I can't imagine he's going to want to be scrumming after every single whistle as the other team tries to push the kids around, but I'm sure glad we've got a big guy with a bit of hands and vision to play alongside the kids. |

Don't know if anyone's pointed it out but Petry had a good game. Broke up about six plays in the defensive end, and got the puck out of trouble a lot. |

I saw 2 high risk plays that he made that I wasn't impressed with. Didn't get caught, but these guys are trying to go up the middle or in front of the net too much. |

Never said Dubnyk was a bad goalie. I just don't see how he "clearly" is a top 15-20 goalie in the league when he has never played 50+ games in a season or had a winning record. |
