Your MJLing that statement, and I think you know it. Besides, I thought you said a moment ago Boston, and Jersey dont have goons... I dont think pittsburgh or NYR do anymore either. so yea.... Quit MJLing. - youarewrong
They don't have goons, but they play physical, hard nosed hockey and have several guys that are more than willing to fight-and who are very good when it comes to fighting.
Again, most times a goon fights, he's doing so against another team's goon or Enforcer in the case of teams that don't carry out and out goons, like Boston.

Switch Rosehill out for Laughton, and I can actually see that line playing more than five minutes. As it is, you're not deploying that fourth line for anything other than facepunching, or maybe a quick breather (if you're especially daring). - BulliesPhan87
Other players can be double shifted to take some shifts on the 4th line. If Rosehill isn't playing, that means that somebody else is getting more ice time. |

The only skirt in Chicago was the skirting on the table that held the Stanley Cup during last night's banner raising. I guess if the "Hawks had a goon or two they could have won two Stanley Cups last year.
Oh, and FWIW, when Torres hit Hossa, the Blackhawks had John Scott on the roster. Having that 6'8" 270 lb goon really helped them, didn't it? - Jsaquella
So Jay Rosehill playing tonight is going to cost the Flyers a chance at the cup? |

Jsaq, we've had this discussion on another thread. You see it one way, and I see it another. I'm open to the argument on both sides. You don't seem to be open to the counter argument. But there's enough NHL teams and GM's who still feel the need for an enforcer. Are they wrong to feel that way? Are they smart enough Hockey people to know if one is needed?
The recent pre season game between Buffalo and Toronto, shows what can happen. The needed Orr then. Did Clarkson not realize that he should have turned the other cheek and just taken the PP? He came off the bench, when he was fully aware of the automatic 10 game suspension for a reason. To defend his teammates. - MJL
Clarkson himself admitted he acted stupidly, and he had zero impact on the altercation.
Had Kessel simply skated away, there would have been no altercation at all.
Let's not confuse one team's stupidity for some sort of code of honor. |

Then you would think you would support the fact that Rosehill is the 13th forward instead of an everyday player like Orr. An "in case of emergency" tool. And when they play a team that isnt using a goon, they will sit Rosehill. Which will be most nights. |

If Simmonds is so fired up to fight, he's not going to settle down and leave the ice for Rosehill to come out of extinction. And if Simmonds isn't on the ice, he will be when the powerplay starts. But Orr won't. And either way, you're not preventing Orr from doing anything dirty. I just don't see how these benefits are anything but a myth. - BulliesPhan87
Do you think that NHL GM's devote a roster spot to a myth? The myth may be the mistaken belief that an enforcer prevents players on the other team from doing anything. They don't and they never have. That's not why they're there. They're there because if a player like Orr is taking runs at players, someone has to confront him and stand up to him. If you tell your team to turtle and back away, you're asking your team to stop being a team. And that creates division, and could cause players to lose respect for a Coach. Clarkson jumped off the bench for a reason. |

So Jay Rosehill playing tonight is going to cost the Flyers a chance at the cup? - youarewrong
Nope. I don't recall anyone saying that. But dressing Jay Rosehill isn;t going to prevent the Leafs from being physical with the Flyers star players, just like the Leafs dressing Colton Orr isn't going to stop Hartnell, Simmonds and Rinaldo from being physical with the Leafs better players.
So if that's the case, and the goons are there to prevent the star players from getting run at, they're doing a pretty poopty job of it. |

I'd rather have a 13th forward that can step in in case of injury and kill penalties or win faceoffs or, you know, actually play the sport of hockey... |

For the few advocating Rosehill dressing, I would like to hear their take on how the Blackhawks and Red Wings are going to combat the imposing presence of Colton Orr. - PLindbergh31
They would potentially put some of their players at risk, and hope they get away with it. |

Scott said to Kessel "Im going to jump you" then proceeded to do so. How do you justify blaming Kessel for any of that? Clarkson obviously shouldn't have came off the bench and thats what he admitted he did wrong, not defending the Leafs star player. |

They have that already. And if they feel they need a different kind of player, they can call that player up. |

It's not stupidity at all. It's standing up for his teammates, and being a quality teammate. I guarantee he was applauded in the locker room for it. |

I'm not blaming Kessel, just saying had he simply skated away, Clarkson doesn;t jump off the bench and he doesn't get suspended for 3 pre-season games.

Definitely (especially after last night), and it's not a trend that's going to stop. Whether sooner or later, fighting is going to be eliminated from the game at some point. - BulliesPhan87
Maybe this is overly cynical, but somebody's going to have to die on the ice before the "it's part of the game" mentality ceases to have so much traction among hockey folks, players and fans. |

yup.. If Philly was in the atlantic division they would need to dress Rosehill almost every night. I love fighting but sometime it feels like everyone gangs up on the Leafs sometime. I dont mean other fans ((frank) them) just other teams. Philly fans probably prefer being a little less goonish am i right? |

But we have already said it doesnt prevent the guys getting run at, but it prevents it from continuing to happen, or having a player like Hartnell from fighting. |

I'm sure they did. But would they be happier if they had Clarkson playing in the first ten regular games? I'm guessing yes. |
