I'm not blaming Kessel, just saying had he simply skated away, Clarkson doesn;t jump off the bench and he doesn't get suspended for 3 pre-season games. - Jsaquella
Kessel is ALL talent, no brains. Ever heard the kid talk? A simpleton, to say the least. Still, he did tune up that flynn kid, which I had to watch again to make sure i wasn't dreaming. |

I'd rather have a 13th forward that can step in in case of injury and kill penalties or win faceoffs or, you know, actually play the sport of hockey... - Jsaquella
And if there is an injury, they will call one up. That simple. And Rosehill will still be the 13th forward. |

Clarkson himself admitted he acted stupidly, and he had zero impact on the altercation.
Had Kessel simply skated away, there would have been no altercation at all.
Let's not confuse one team's stupidity for some sort of code of honor. - Jsaquella
I disagree. Clarkson did not act stupidly. Standing up for your teammates, is never, ever stupid.
I agree that Kessel should've skated away, but he didn't. That :code of honor" exists among teammates, whether you want to beleive it or not. |

But we have already said it doesnt prevent the guys getting run at, but it prevents it from continuing to happen, or having a player like Hartnell from fighting. - youarewrong
It doesn't prevent it, though.
There was a game against the Sabres, year before last. Kaleta was running Flyers players all night long. Jody Shelley was dressed, and fought, and it did NOTHING to stop Kaleta's shenanigans.
Your theory is a fallacy. |

Yep, because he had a self-admitted momentary attack of stupidity. - Jsaquella
I bet that self-admitted momentary attack of stupidity earned him a lot of respect in his new dressing room. |

5, 10 years ago I'd be railing against everything you're saying.
Today, I don't think we could agree more. You're a bit angrier about it today than I am but I'm done with signing these guys. I'd rather dress Laughton or McGinn. I have no interest in seeing these guys "play."
Do you know that with the decrease in hockey enrollment in the area they've pushed back the start of the High School Varsity Hockey season to November? Do you know why? They can encourage the football players to come out for the teams without interfering with their seasons. You know what you get when you add football players to Varsity Hockey? A 10 to 20% increase in the idiots who are just out there running around hitting things and starting fights.
I've had enough. |

Kessel backs up when Scott comes after him. I don't see how it could have been avoided. Clarkson made a mistake coming over the boards no doubt, but who knows what would have happend had it played out differently. |

Shelly has to be put out on the ice when Kaleta is out there by the Coach. Shelley just can't take a shift whenever he wants. It's not a fallacy. |

yup.. If Philly was in the atlantic division they would need to dress Rosehill almost every night. I love fighting but sometime it feels like everyone gangs up on the Leafs sometime. I dont mean other fans ((frank) them) just other teams. Philly fans probably prefer being a little less goonish am i right? - Arctic_AARDVARK
I literally just threw up in my mouth when I heard "if philly was in the Atlantic." I know this is off subject but hearing it said like that just sounds so wrong. |

Clarkson basically said himself that he shouldn't have done it, saying he thought with his heart and not his head.
Standing up for your teammates isn't stupid. But being careless and doing a poor job of picking your spots is most definitely stupid, because it ends up costing your team...whether you want to believe it or not. |

I'm sure they did. But would they be happier if they had Clarkson playing in the first ten regular games? I'm guessing yes. - Jsaquella
Doesn't change that what Clarkson did took courage and he was willing to sacrifice himself for a teammate. He did what he had to do. And I bet he'd do it again. |

Eh, I think that's definitely not set in stone. I think the "how" in standing up for a teammate is the key. A player can stab an opposing player in the eye and call it "standing up for a teammate" |

Kessel took one step back and swung his stick, then Scott is immediately involved with guys on the ice coming to Kessel's defense. Kessel then had time to skaekate around and whack Scott while he was involved with others. Clarkson never got involved in any of the altercations on the ice. |

If everything that is supposed to happens, happens every time, then why play the game?
By your reasoning, just becuase you shoot the puck from the blue line once and it goes in, it should work every time..... EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE! |

Courage was TJ Brennan and Carter Ashton taking actual punches to save Kessel.
What Clarkson did was, at best, ill-advised. Probably more along the lines of stupid. |
