winning on the scoreboard isn't always a clear indicator of a game. Bernier won this game for the Leafs - nastyflyergirl
bernier could have had 1.000 save % and lost the game still need offense |

Hartnell was a turnover machine tonight..he needs to find a sticky glue to keep the puck in his stick. |

Meh these (frank)ers weren't forechecking... When they quit that they lost the game - PhillaBully
The Leafs did a good job frustrating the transition game. The turnover for the first goal was just terrible and they blew coverage badly on the second. But they need to take better advantage of the PP's...1-7 ain't gonna cut it |

I think he (and the staff) get a share of the blame. Still the same old "no answer for a hardworking trap" situation. Players get their share for not converting on so many PP chances, and the coverage breakdowns. Plenty to go around imo. - BringBack25
The situation in the League now is that it is very difficult to come from behind in the 3rd, once you're down. Give the Leafs credit for the defensive job they did in the 3rd.

kimmo was terrible tonight imo. Streit and Vinny looked great - very excited to have them.
Did Couts even play? He did very little tonight.
Bernier did not look like an "unproven" goaltender.
(frank) - moylander
agree about Couturier. Not sure I liked his line. I definitely prefer Jake with G and Hartnell. Read played well. maybe go back to what the original line was going to be with Talbot/Couturier/read and Schenn/Vinny/Simmonds. Should see Laughton with Hall and Rinaldo on Saturday |

Lets look at the positives:
Vinny looks like a wonderful pick up. I like his work ethic and what he brings to the game |

Positives:
Really liked how Streit, Lecavalier, Read and Grossmann played. I thought Mason wasn't at fault. The PP absolutely should've gotten more than one -- just tough luck.
Negatives:
I'll...save those. It's the first game of the season. They played hard, I thought, for the whole game. That's a start -- they didn't look as good as this throughout the preseason.
Concerns:
The even-strength goal-scoring. Maybe, just maybe...we need a one-dimensional goal scorer. Something to think about. |

Bernier was the reason Toronto won this game. he stood on his head. overall the flyers outplayed Toronto. that wasn't a hollow 32 shots they threw at Bernier. they had some prime opportunities |

Hartnell Giroux Jake
Read Vinny Schenn
Simmonds Cooter Talbot |

Same here. The 3rd period was disappointing. Just need to clean a few things up, but there were some good things. Once the Leafs scored in the beginning of the 3rd, the Leafs shut it down. Giroux is still a little rusty, and the PP didn't click. - MJL
I agree totally, Jake needs to play with 28 + 19. Vinny looked real good and despite the outcome the talent is there and just needs time to jell. Emery in net will boost the whole team, unless he is not 100% he should have been in goal. Mason looked like a fool on the long shot, I have no confidence in him, period. He will have to win me over with a stretch of solid play. |

Biggest worry from tonight remains 5 on 5 play. They got outshot by the Leafs at 5 on 5, and despite all the PP's, they didn't generate enough chances at even strength as the game went on. |

That's what gets me when a team starts attacking their transitional game this team is dead in the water...they played well enough to win the game, but I'm mad that no adjustments were made once again to counter that and fix this damn transition |

I disagree, you need one guy infront of the net, not both, the other 4 need to be able to handle the puck and be somewhat creative, you get the puck on their stick and they turn it over numerous times.... - Buzzo
That sounds great, but that's not the PP the Flyers run.

I really have no idea why you keep pointing Mason out. He was solid tonight. He had little chance on any of the goals.

Not really, they created some great chances and Bernier played great. that's why you have to play better at 5 on 5, can't expect PP to carry you every night. |

that' was the game right there. could have won this 4 - 3 if the PP was clicking.
well, the poor PP and BERNIER might have had something to do with this.
but, as someone said earlier, this was the type of game that the Flyers will win on most nights. Tonight the goalie really WAS the difference. |
