To me this means 1 of 2 things. Either he is defiantely here for the entire season and Lavi plans to make this decision at times, or it wasn't Lavi's choice to keep him for the 9 game tryout.
I just cant see a reason you would have him here for a 9 game tryout, if you dont plan to play him those 9 games. Or can someone clarify is it 9 games he plays. So if he sits out more games then he could still be sent down once he plays in this 9th game.... - youarewrong
If it is lavy i seriously hope they fire his ass. He sucks at managing younger players...
Bring in murray already! |

Other beat writers (most notably Timmy) saying Hall is the scratch, not Laughton. No Hall jersey in locker room. - BringBack25
So the bottom line?
Seravalli (frank)ed up again.

Yes it does, as he'll be a roster player. Same thing happened with Buffalo scratching Grigorenko last year. - jmatchett383
Hmmm? Pretty sure it doesn't. He still gets paid, but it doesn't count against the slide. |
|
|
|
That would make sense for tonight. I don't want to see Laughton up against the Leaf 4th line yet.
Also, Shirley if Laughton sits out it doesn't count against his 9 games, does it? - HockeyNutte

If he sits, it doesn't count as one off the nine games |

I think when Hall, Eberle, Gagner and RNH are all in their 30s, the Oilers will be saying "This is the year we make the playoffs!" |

Yes and no -- it's not that Schenn can't. The thing about the Leafs wingers is that they'll turn anyone around, not just our guys. JVR, Kessel and Lupul -- man, those guys are good. Kessel's a two-time all-start, and Lupul was an all-star the last full season played.
That's why we need to be careful with the matchups -- they're going to get loose. And at some point, Streit-Schenn will be out there. It's just that with Streit-Schenn, any mistake that Schenn makes, Streit likely isn't going to be able to cover it, while Streit...again, I like him as a player. But Kessel, Lupul and JVR are going right by him, and Schenn won't be able to cover that at all times. - AllInForFlyers
You might be over thinking it a bit. A lot of teams have good wingers. I'm sure Schenn and Streit will be fine. |

if Laughton DOES sit tonight, it DOES NOT count towards his 9 games. He has to be dressed for the game for it to count towards the total. |

Understood, but he's not playing and playing with better players on a regular basis is (one of the) value propositions for keeping him in the NHL.
At least in Oshawa, he would actually.....you know.....be playing and presumably developing.
That said, I'm really hoping whichever beat writer said Laughton was scratched had it wrong. |

Ha! I hope so -- I want them to play well, because Mark Streit does some things really well. I'd hate for him to be the whipping boy, because the things he does well are things we truly need.

ASF is employed by the Flyers, so I gotta think this is authoritative.

Probably shouldn't discount the benefit of being around pros and practicing against NHL players, though.
I remember Brayden Schenn being around the Kings for almost half the season while only getting into a few games and that directly led to him destroying the WJC's and WHL that year. |

I think Rosehill is playing over Hall because the Leafs have some true Heavyweights.

I get it. I do.
I just don't like having Laughton around and sitting him.
It's just one game and maybe it's business as usual after this one. |

Not sure that Laughton matches up well against Bolland and/or McClement yet, so maybe Lavi's being cautious for opening night against a team high off a win. |

And we're still waiting on Brayden Schenn to "break out" into whatever he is going to become. |

See, I can see why you'd dress Adam Hall pretty easily -- Tyler Bozak and Jay McClement are good on draws. Kadri's fairly weak, Bolland is sub-standard.
But if you're going to match up 4th line vs. 4th line, McClement would be a tough matchup for Scott Laughton.
Laughton will be fine. He doesn't have to play every game -- he made the team and there will be more favorable matchups.

Yeah, but that's not because he spent too much time in the pressbox in 10-11. He's just on a more typical development path. |
