Good write. Can't understand why dubber drops to his knees every time someone is about to take a shot. Much of the time he is too deep into the crease to cut down angles. If he'd have stayed on his feet and came out to challenge the shooter more, we'd have won the game. At his age, he's too old to change the style that has never brought him success.
smyth, gawd, he was so not a first or second liner, as we've seen all pre-season. Get Yak up there with Taylor.
Love the big Finn and our waiver-wire pick-up (so far).
sobering---this was only the Jets; not exactly a contender.

Gonna be a long season.

Any chance of enticing a trade for Lehner?

Like I said, chalk it up as a game you move on from. That's all they really can do.
- Lahey

Im sick of chalking it up. I have 0 faith in that team right now. I know they are missing centers, but to blow a lead like that is tiresome. No offence to Winnipeg, but they have some teams coming up that are going to walk all over them. The only difference from last year is the toughness they showed, so thats a good thing i guess.

Game one of a preseason where we played against NHLers the whole time, you don't see how guys might be rusty? New coach, new system might be a few games of pain especially with a new #1 center

That was a team effort loss. Duby should have had goals 1 and 5. Ference and Shultz should have been doing something during goal 4 (mostly Ference). Eakins gave Yak no ice time till the last period. He had the 3rd lowest on the team. I am sorry, when you have no chemistry you shake up the lines. Smyth can take draws, you move him to acrobellas spot and put Hall with Yak.

Hall was not passing because he didn't think he had anyone on his line. He looked ticked of all game. He kept trying to do it by himself until he got Yak out there. Hemsky showed up for one shift and faded again. Why that guy can't do more than one. Why do we have two fighters and neither beat Kane after he took liberties with Eberle, Hall and Smid. That's why teams have fighters.

Eakins lines were terrible. PP's with 4 forwards and Jesse and Smyth were two of them. Belov the only d? You use Petry and Schultz. They have the experience and are proven on the PP. Then you leave Smyth on the bench. Bad enough Gordon has to be there for the face off. You need to put one of our actual top 6 out there.

Plus MacT has to take some blame. Why are we against the cap with only 1 center who sucks? We have a goalie that we can't pull because our back up came at a bargain. We look to not finish which sucks because we gave up our second round pick for Perron and our youngest big guy. Our enforcer Brown was out there hitting guys and sliding off them like rain drops.

Jesse was the only bright spot last night.

This is one thing that Oilers fans will need to learn about Eakins, and may lead to the end of the Eakins love affair. He doesn't care who you are, or where you were drafted. If you don't perform what he asks, and up to his standards, you will not get the ice time. That was his MO pretty much the entire time he was with the Marlies. [/img]

A few things I was happy about last night's game:

1) we scored first-
2)secondary scoring
3) outshot opposition
4) new faces shined esp Jonesuu- and also enjoyed Acton, Gazdic, Perron, Ference and Belov
5) outshot the opposition- and had we hit the net more in the 3rd it would have been near 50 shots in the game...lol
6) Hemsky did not get injured and was buzzing
7) Our aggressive PK
8) we are a faster team than last year and that says alot-
9) we played with speed and grit

10. Has to be winning the faceoff battle with one center with NHL experience. I don't care how bad a team is on the draw, us winning the faceoff battle with all that inexperience was huge.

(frank) that noise. It was one of the biggest complaints here, it has to get a spot.

Plus it makes it a top 10 and not 9

Here's the other thing, first time playing this system. 3 days off, watching the film is going to show these guys their mistakes. It's actually not a bad thing that we had errors. Everyone had mistakes last night, watching some film can and should help.

We also have to keep in mind we had what 5 guys in Acton, Gradzic, Joesnuu, Belov and Arcobello that are very inexperienced at the NHL level.

All things considered I don't see what the concern is at this point. I'd also suggest that this won't be the last time we see a game like that. Both teams opened up and didn't care about defense at times, 9 goals is what happens when that happens.

I think Edmonton,s time to make a big move is coming ,they are deep in skilled tallent in the top 6. But lack in depth everywhere else,Maybe a 3for1 type of deal is the tonic here

No what we need is to be like Toronto and trade for Phaneuf, not trade Eberle for a bunch of d-men that would clear waivers.

Eg.

Smyth, Jones, Eager and N.Schultz for a top pairing d-man. I won't get greedy and ask for a prospect like Aulie though

If Trouba continues to play as well as he did last night they are going to have an amazing top 4 defense.
