Fraser on crutches, twisted knee... Rielly in.
Lupul for Captain.
Ranger needs to have a much better game on Saturday: he looked slow and indecisive most of the game and with Fraser likely out for a while, we need him to step up.
Franson's looking more and more like an all-round elite defenseman with every game. Always looks confident with the puck, knows where to go and his physical/positional game is really coming together. |

Ranger looked terrible most of the game. Although there were a few shining moments in the 2nd period in between his penalties and stupid moves. He blocked a couple shots and scrambled to make some plays that could have led to goals...unfortunately it was him who caused the opportunity in the first place.
Maybe someone can answer this for me, in the 3rd period the commentator said the Leafs were basically down to 4 d-men with Fraser out, I'm assuming he meant we had Gunnarsson, Phaneuf, Ranger and Franson because I noticed very little of Gardiner in the 3rd as well...anyone else catch that? What was wrong with Gardiner? Same reason Kadri got little time; coach not impressed? |

Well, we spent 14 minutes short-handed, so that would eat into Gardiner's and Kadri's minutes. Kadri was more of a match-up strategy because of Lecavalier: Carlyle thought (rightly) that Bolland would match up better.
It's going to be interesting to see how Kadri responds to Bolland in his rear-view mirror all season because Leafs management feels that Bolland can push for the #2 hole.
Kadri's not the type to roll over and die so he'll learn quickly by example (and by losing minutes) what it takes to stick around, much the same way Grabovski did when his Mac in the USSR line was a scoring and shutdown threat a few years ago. |

True regarding SH time. But there was a 9 minute span in the 2nd period where he didn't get a shift.
I think he'll respond. Bolland does have more experience so putting him against a more experience player like Vinny was definitely the right move. I have a feeling the lines will be juggled pretty much the whole season. We have 3 scoring lines and the 2nd and 3rd are sort of interchangable with Kadri, Bolland, Kulemin, Clarkson/Bodie and Lupul |

The only D man with the puck that doesn't scare the poop out of me is Franson. Seems to be the only one who can the thing out of the Leafs end consistently - the rest of them try and fail, or bang it up the boards to the opposition at centre ice or my favorite "the Dion" flip it up in the air to centre ice. |

I don't think the McKenzie tweet is connected to the dreger tweet. He retweeted some peoples tweets about him being a dinosaur about fighting. |

I say take out Ranger and give Reilly a go! - canada.dry
Ranger improved as the game went on, not as bad as some seem to think...... also Fraser left on crutches, so may have no choice but to replace fraser for Rielly. |

Yes Gardiner watching as usual, (frank)ing guy doesn't know how to play D, not sure why he's even in the lineup - he needs to have some patience and not jump up 3x a shift |

Kulemin doesn't make many mistakes. Too bad he just can't put up the points at a consistent rate. But defensively, he's as solid as they come |

Ranger was garbage most of the game....in fact the whole team was crap outside of our number 1 goalie and our best dman Franson.
But it was the 2nd game of back to back home openers so that's expected.
Fraser can take his time healing....he's been so unimpressive every game he's been in since the start of pre-season. |

Ya Carlyle doesn't always make the best choices.
I loved Kulemin's stupid pointless tackle to get the 2 minute penalty.
Looking forward to seeing him back on the 3rd line and as long as the leafs never pay him anything over 2.5-3 million....I'd be ok with him on the team. |
