And by the way: I don't want anybody saying that I said "Radim Vrbata" is the answer to all things Flyer-related.
I just contrasted another player on another team. Not sure why every time I do that, it's like I'm saying "Bring in that guy, right now!" - AllInForFlyers
What was the point made by comparing Simmonds to Vrbata then? |

If you don't know the difference between those two players, nothing I explain is going to matter to you. I don't know why you feel like I have to explain everything to your satisfaction.
I don't. |

Played together on the PP and at ES, so doesn't matter. Giroux was as guilty trying to force plays on the PP as at ES. - MJL
There is more room for creativity on the PP then at ES, so it does matter. The fact that your not putting the numbers up there suggest to me, that their ES numbers weren't all that great together. And that may be why they were seperated. |

When you're a team like the Flyers that missed the playoffs last year. You don't stand pat. You look to improve the team. - MJL

They controlled all three zones in the Leafs game for 40 solid minutes and still couldn't score at ES. The breakout is part of it, but not the entire story. - Tomahawk
I think you have it the other way around. The score didn't tell the whole story. If they controlled play but were just putting the puck on net from the parimeter then I would say you might be right. But the truth was they had tons of quality scoring chances that were stopped simply but outstanding goaltending. |

facts only matter when they agree w/ an opinion....
this team is not loaded w/ guys that convert certain types of chances. if jake continues to stick w/ the shooters mentality, he and G are the only plyrs that the flyers can bank on for 30+ goals. otherwise, they better crash the net and p/u rebounds. - isaiah520
I'm not totally concerned about that. When was the last time the Flyers had more than two 30 goal scorers in a season?
EDIT - 2008-2009 Flyers had 4 players with 30 goals or more. Since then they've only had two each season, if I'm not mistaken. |

You keep saying that. You keep acting like there's a difference over that large a sample size.
You keep saying "they have more than enough offensive talent."
Again, there's the matter of PRODUCTION. You keep equating your perceptions of "offensive talent" with real-world production -- and it's not the same. It's the very core of what makes fans overvalue players on their favorite teams.
If the Flyers have "more than enough offensive talent," then by all means, answer this question: What did 13 of the top 16 highest-scoring teams in the NHL at even strength have in common last season?
I'll answer that one for you: Those 13 teams all made the playoffs.
Again: Just because you don't see the problem doesn't mean there isn't one.
- AllInForFlyers
Just because there was an issue last year, doesnt mean they will have the same issue this year. Tell me what their ES totals were 2 seasons ago. Maybe last year was just a fluke because of short season, injuries and missing a puck moving defender.... hmmm... |

Voracek was 8/9/17 on the PP and 14/15/19 ES
Giroux was 6/15/21 on the PP and 6/20/26 ES. |

Bernier played well, and made some tough stops, but let's not pretend that he had a tough time seeing shots, or had to stop a lot of rebound chances, or had to make a lot of spectacular saves. He was on his angles, just had to make the first stop (or watch it go sailing over his head), and that was usually the end of it. |

This team has no chemistry at all. This has to be the worst passing team in the league and no creativity at all besides G,Vinny and Jake. Long year coming guys no matter who's coaching. - hatcher

I do know the difference between those two players, and it's not a big difference. If you care to discuss the merits of swapping Simmonds for Vrbata, I'd be glad to do so. It's simply about having a conversation. |

Well that would be incorrect. The numbers are easily found on NHL.com. Voracek had a breakout Season playing with Giroux, and was on pace for over a 70 point Season. |

And what are those facts? This team does not have a goal scorer on the level of Stamkos, or Ovechkin. But it has plenty of offensive talent, that rivals the majority of the teams in the League. and if neccessary, I can provide those facts for you. TB had Stamkos, and also Martin St. Louis. Two of the top scorers in the entire League. They missed the playoffs.
How many teams in the last 3 years had more then 2 30 goal scorers in a Season? Let's look at the facts. |
