See to me, they arent even that crazy run and gun. Its seems toned down this season. Aside from the first minute in game 1, where they were running wild.
Your argument stands on one basis. That a more defensive minded coach would be a better fit. To be honest, I really question that. I dont think the fix is that easy, but will agree that maybe its a start.
I do think much more has to be done, and as much as you hammer on Lava, I cannot hold it back against Holmgren. - flyer_nutter
I see chronically poor decisions with the puck. I see poor passing decisions, poor shot selection, poor decision making in almost every aspect of the game. I see one poor choice after another. Ill advised cross ice passes, Ill advised decisions on when to carry the puck instead of getting it deep. Ill advised extra passes instead of getting it on net. Poor decision after poor decision.
The question is why? Did they all forget how to play basic hockey? Are they trying to execute a system they do not have the ability or personnel to execute? Are they stubborn? Are they just not that good? All of the above?

Bob looks great, good job Homer and Lavy - vejim
Because the goalies have been the problem this season and not the fact the team has scored 2 goals.

I wish we had gotten bernier in net. love read but bernier is the athletic-type goalie we need in net.
and i loathe our defense... loathe them. Individually they all can play - as a pairing they can't stop poop and they are never around when goals are scored. - moylander
Again, I don't see where goaltending has been an issue so far. |

I'm not saying they need to bring in Lemaire. They need a guy who will instill discipline, and adjust the breakout so it doesn't get eaten alive by the trap.
You can't beat the trap when you have 3 opposing forwards between your defensemen and your forwards. What happens is, the forwards start up ice, almost recklessly, and it forces the defenseman to make a longer pass or carry it out.
That leads to turnovers and odd man rushes.
Then there's the lack of discipline on the forecheck. They gt a dump in, while stationary and all 3 forwards go Hell bent for rubber, and if the opposing defenseman moves the puck smartly, they're caught.

Know what I (frank)ing loathe?
That Jsaq will get his satisfaction of a new coach, maybe even a year before I will get my satisfaction of Hextall as GM. |

Keep Schenn and Streit and one of Mesz(if he stays healthy and comes back cheap) or Grossmann. Other than that clean the damn house. |

Keep Grossmann. Mez has been pretty bad. At least Grossmann can fill in as a backup goalie if needed. |

Maybe its a little bit of a negative vibe but after pre-season and 2 games of Streit he is going to a goat for his whole time here.
Not anywhere close to worth his 5.25 price tag. I know this is again a whole impatience thing, and I will admit it here, but I would rather have Guss. |

I won't get any satisfaction out of Laviolette getting fired. Id prefer he'd wake up to his team's limitations. |

My Christmas list:
1. A right-handed offensive defenseman who can skate to take Meszaros' spot.
2. A scoring right wing to play with Sean Couturier -- and I didn't say a two-way winger. I mean a guy who can flat-out freaking score.
3. Send Kris Newbury back down and get Tye McGinn's rear end back up here to play 3LW.
4. Never, and I mean never, again play Talbot and Rinaldo with Sean Couturier. ENOUGH. |

See I think you see them, even with the D limitations as a 6 dressed up as a 9.
Frankly, I think they are a 2 that will be wasting our time until the quality is improved on D.
However I am realistic. I do think a coaching change will be first. I think they will continue to struggle, and (frank)ing pray that Holmgren is gone next season. |
