Know what I (frank)ing loathe?
That Jsaq will get his satisfaction of a new coach, maybe even a year before I will get my satisfaction of Hextall as GM. - flyer_nutter
i think you might get a new coach and GM at the same time homer has frucked this team up with stupid moves |

My biggest complaint....the turnovers. 40+ I got to by the middle of the 3rd and gave up. If anyone asks, I go by the official definition of a turnover. Full possession of the puck then giving it away to the other team.
PP got better once they stopped doing the "Flying V". Joey Mullen should be punched in the groin for teaching that.
I expect Gus to start for Mez tomorrow, Meszaros was a train wreck tonight again.
STOP going backwards when you are in the defensive zone!!! EVERY TIME they get in that habit they always cough it up.
I thought they brought in Streit to move the puck? There's a guy 3 feet away, why are you tossing it down the ice to open area constantly? Guess he's trying to emulate Kimmo "Turnover" Timonen. |

My Christmas list:
1. A right-handed offensive defenseman who can skate to take Meszaros' spot.
2. A scoring right wing to play with Sean Couturier -- and I didn't say a two-way winger. I mean a guy who can flat-out freaking score.
3. Send Kris Newbury back down and get Tye McGinn's rear end back up here to play 3LW.
4. Never, and I mean never, again play Talbot and Rinaldo with Sean Couturier. ENOUGH. - AllInForFlyers
My one wish?
Build a (frank)ing complete TEAM. Yes you need guys that can score, and whatever. However enough with forwards who have a questionable defensive game to begin with. Enough with so many one dimensional D. |

Anyway, it is 2 games. 80 left.
On the plus side, perhaps our biggest worry has eluded us up to this point. They are healthy.
Nutters lines for game 3, a grinder, shooter, and playmaker.

One thing I heard that I have carried with me for 30 years now:
How many Selke Trophies did Mario Lemieux win?
Sometimes, defense is overrated when you're scoring one goal a night, on the PP.
My point being: You can teach defense. You can't teach a guy to put puck under the bar. Either a guy can do that, or he can't.
We need guys who can put the puck in a corner or under the bar, who can be taught to backcheck hard. |

See I think you see them, even with the D limitations as a 6 dressed up as a 9.
Frankly, I think they are a 2 that will be wasting our time until the quality is improved on D.
However I am realistic. I do think a coaching change will be first. I think they will continue to struggle, and (frank)ing pray that Holmgren is gone next season. - flyer_nutter
Honestly, the defense could be more than adequate. I think the pairs suck. Timonen looks every second of his age, and Coburn's out there trying to do too much, and that always leads to trouble.
Streit and Schenn is another terrible pair. Schenn's not a stay at home guy, he's a guy that hits, which means he needs a guy who is responsible defensively to help out. Streit ain't that.
Meszaros is a mess, and Grossmann is a limited, one dimensional guy who doesn't have the mobility to help cover for Meszaros' declined play.
I'd bench Meszaros, play Gustafsson with Grossmann, Schenn with Timonen and Coburn with Streit. I'd force the forwards to play a better 200 foot game and worry more about possession than trying to spring guys for fast breaks that never materialize. |

I think a coaching change would do us all well.
A new coach means a new system. A new coach simply means change, which it looks like the team and its players need.
A new system means (hopefully) less running around recklessly. Less odd man rushes. Less poor defense. Less of this delusional let's try to score 5 goals a game so hard that we end up losing 4-1 mindset. Less of the piss poor breakouts. Less of the stoic, unchanging, predictable gameplan. Less of the droning, melodical bullpoop we put up with since last January.
Maybe it'll mean more organization. Better player management. Better line management. Better cohesion. Better team defense, not because we bring in Hitchcock, but simply because it's not offense offense offense all the time. Teams can focus on offense and still play defense. You don't need a trap to play D....
Maybe it'll mean more goals and more wins.... |

This league has trended downward on offense for 25 years now, so maybe three or four guys in the entire league can get to 50 now.
A better question is this one: How many Stanley Cups did Brett Hull win?
Because that's an example of a pure scorer who got taught how to play defense.

I'd probably agree with that. Actually I would.
However in terms of a long term view regarding the direction of the team, they will need a major overhaul on that D.
I dont think the mix back there especially, and slightly regarding the offense is good enough. Or anywhere near it. I predicted them to be flirting with a playoff spot, and probably finishing slightly outside of it before the season began. Its what they have shown me as well, in a small 2 game sample size also.
I just have no hope in Holmgren being able to direct this team properly, and spend money wisely. |

Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov, Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Mike Modano. Elite offensive talent who learned to play responsibly enough to win Cups.
You don't turn Maxime Talbot into Wayne Gretzky.
You get Wayne Gretzky to backcheck like Maxime Talbot. That's how you win. |

Even if it doesn't, it would give management a better idea of which guys can and can not adapt and be more disciplined.
It's the way the game is going-smart, disciplined play is the style that smart teams are adopting. Puck possession is going to be hugely important.
I'm not saying just get a new coach and it'll be fixed. I'm saying get a new coach so you know what pieces you can use for the future and which you can discard |
