True, but given our inability to score I think you've got to get your best player in position to produce. Vinny is big, wins faceoffs and can create space for G to focus on offense, which we really need him to do right now. - hereticpride

Put him on a line with Vinny and Hartnell.Schenn centers Voracek, Coots centers Read. No excuses for those lines not producing points. - hereticpride

Cheaping out was the wrong term. "Cutting corners" is more appropriate. We have a refusal to draft and develop top-end defensive talent, and a refusal to acquire it through trade (due to being afraid of the asset cost). We have a tendency to sign older guys off of free agency, or acquire more mediocre talent through trade and hope it will solve everything. We either need to adjust the system, or stop cutting corners with our defense. - JAKEw1234
we even cut corners on offense
we get a bunch of grindy players and expect them to score consistently |

You uhhhh....
You honestly, with all your heart, think goaltending has been a problem this year?
Oh dear.... - Giroux_Is_God
Did I say it was the problem?? Where did I say it was the problem? It's a fact they went bargain shopping on goaltending. It hasn't been their problem, not yet at least. It is more just used to show that this team is (frank)ing clueless. There is no middle ground. They pay an arm and a leg for a goalie and it doesn't work, so what do they do? They do a complete 180 and spend the least. The whole blend of the team is wrong. From goaltending to forwards to coaching, the team doesn't make sense. There is no system that suits this team in anyway. |

Voracek isn't exclusively a sniper, but he is a shooter. |

Hate to bring this up again but I said last year the biggest problem is coach Lava. He can not instill team defence or team discipline. The penalties taken are on the coach and not the player more often than not. Lava has screwed up the lines to the point where it is hard to watch the game. Is he clueless or what?? My biggest fear is they fire him and bring in another bonehead like Berube. Giroux and Voracek have to be reunited with possibly Lecavalier on the lw until Hartnell figures out which end is up. Schenn could center the second line. Couter and Read work well on the third line. Bring Marc Crawford out of retirement and then we will score some goals. |

He is more of a passer but started shooting more last year. Voracek works well with Giroux and I am sure he is pissed losing his spot to Schenn and being dropped to the third line after being the second best player on the team last year. That one is on Lava. The kids are regressing under Lava, Couter looks weaker than two years ago. Schenn is stuck where he is and the penalties taken are ridiculous. Lava just has to go, I wanna barf every time the camera hits him. I know it is early but another year like last year and I don't know if I could take it again. |

Giroux also needs to start passing the puck, he is being way too fancy and trying to score all by himself. It may be that with Hartnell on one side and Schenn on the other he has no other choice, lol Voracek actually creates more offense from the right point that Streit does, at least he is moving a top speed and is harder to predict. I wonder if Streit can play the left side?? Just something to ponder |

There are three guys on this team who can place the puck where they want it when they shoot it: Giroux, Lecavalier and Scott Hartnell -- dead serious. Scott Hartnell is a deadly accurate shooter from inside the slot.
I think Sean Couturier can shoot it where he wants, as well -- but we'll never know, because he never gets passes in offensive areas to shoot it. Couturier might as well be playing with me, for as much offensive talent he's played with over the last season-plus.
We have two defensemen who can get it on net consistently: Timonen and Streit.
Worse: Only Giroux, Read, Lecavalier, Streit and Timonen are reliable passers and receivers of the puck -- and I'm only putting Read on there because I'm in a good mood.
Three forwards and two defensemen. Five guys out of the 18 you dress a night.
That's not nearly enough, to score in this league.

if couturier had the ability i'm sure he would - 2Real
The way things are looking in hindsight, trading Couturier for Bernier straight up might have been good for the flyers.
On the other hand a trade like that could have turned Couter into a star player and ruined Bernier's career |

I dunno about Hartnell. I think he's good at what he does but that's not necessarily sniping. He's more of a power forward than a sniper. |

If you don't want to give Hartnell that pass, that's fine -- it actually makes it even more obvious how much this team needs an injection of skill.
