This pretty well sums it up, the only way Downie could have avoided hitting his head was either to drop to his knees, or jump out of the way and let him carry the puck up the ice.

As for people claiming he left the ice before the point of contact, they are dead wrong. I ran the recording through several times, and he left the ice as his body literally ramped up over the other player.

I am recanting my dirty hit position after seeing "feet on the ice" stills. Hit was clean, charging penalty was valid. No doubt he'll pay for it immediately next game. I just hope it's someone besides Clune. I love that kid, he'll fight anybody but loses to everybody. He needs to box in the summer. Only seen him win a time or two.

Maybe you can make the case that it was a charge.

At regular speed it looks bad, when you look at the pic posted earlier in this thread and watch it in slow mo it just looks like a big hard clean hit.

Legal hit, just a lack of respect. A large majority of players probably wouldn't have gone for that type of hit, but he apparently feels like he needs to do that kind of stuff to be effective.

Should he be suspended? No. It's just a matter of respecting your fellow players enough to not try to ruin them.

Get the puck.immediatley skate with your head down

Start screaming "RESPECT ME!!!" (no one hits you out of respect for your head being down)

Since no one touches you, you will have a breakaway every time!

Totally agree. They want to forge out am identity because for the last 10 years that have been a vanilla team... little flavour, no colour. I think it will last a month. Belligerence does not replace talent. About the same time I predict Roy throwing a garbage can on the ice and claiming the refs made him do it.

Hit totally legal. Only reason that happened cause weber was face rolling dutchy. Should of been a call. THEN that hit never would of happened. Non of us were on the ice. That was an awesome hit... sick of every big hit being debated... he took 2-3 strides after pursuing the hit so no charge... jsut cuz the momentum takes him into the air doesnt mean he jumped... maybe we should suspend josi for having his head up his ass and not looking up ice

In typical fashion, the league chose not to review this and call a hearing. Small market teams never get the league attention when someone takes out one of their players. Small TV market means other teams can do what every they want. It is only when TSN or ESPN pick up on it and the league thinks sponsors might be watching that they step in.

Downie 1) Left his feet BEFORE the hit, and 2) primary contact was to the HEAD, and 3) caused and injury ( Josi was out for the rest of the game).
