And it will. The coach will probably be gone in the next 10 days. I will find it amusing when the next coach comes in and the results don't change much. Then everyone will be calling for the GM to be fired. - PLindbergh31
I figured the decision would be made by Christmas, but if they start 0 - 5, I can't see them NOT firing the coach.
True story: NHL franchises make a lot money on gate receipts during the playoffs. Not making the playoffs is not an option, business plan wise, for this franchise. |

i hear ya man. they're not nearly as "recklessly aggressive" as they've been in the past, and now they can't score. might just be that the way they choose to play only determines how they fall short, not whether they do
hopefully it's just adjustment issues, but consider me officially skeptical - FlyerMike18
I want them to win.
If they have to fire the coach, fine. If they have to trade players, fine.
And if a new coach is brought in and a system change gets this group of players scoring goals, mark it down: I will be more than happy -- again, more than happy -- to come on this board and say that it was the coach and that the players have tuned him out.
But I don't think it's that. I think the players have played hard. They basically held Toronto to two goals (thought I acknowledge the late PPG, obviously) and Montreal added a late one as well. They only conceded two tonight, as well.
In other words, the defense hasn't been sexy, but it hasn't been the reason the team has lost.
I believe this team can't score because it simply isn't talented enough to do so. I think the NHL has subtly changed to even more speed and skill and hockey sense since 2010, and the Flyers haven't got the players for it.
Again, if I'm wrong, I'll say so. But I don't think I am.

He got canned from Carolina for lack of adjustment:
"It's about changing to get the chemistry back on our team, to get the confidence back on our team and make what I would say minor adjustments in a system that really worked in the Stanley Cup year. But teams have adjusted to it, and our team hasn't adjusted over the last couple of years." - Jim Rutherford - Winning
Well, they don't fire coaches for making good adjustments |

Far from panic. Pretty much non competitive against average to below average teams, on the heels of an awful pre-season.

a coaching change is required, its the only way before the teams gets a bad attitude, this is an extension of last year. there is too much talent on this team to be scoring only 1 goal a game. no recommendations at this time of who i want as the replacement but i think it needs to be done asap. |

Giroux was saying during the post game interview that they just have to stick to the plan. Hopefully the plan isn't playing uninspired lifeless 0-3 hockey.
I was hoping someone would ask him what the plan was. |

I hit it after the preseason. This team just flat out sucks. Sorry to be so negative, but they just aren't a team, aren't fun to watch and are an embarrassment. Otherwise things are great.
They can fire the coach, but there are so many more problems. |

That Rutherford quote is so damning.
The GM should be fired if they miss the playoffs. He had all summer to bring in a new coach that would have a full training camp to install a system, but he let Laviolette stay with entirely predictable results. 0-3, two years in a row. |

Not sure how the new coach is going to stop brain dead, stupid, undisciplined penalties. I guess he can start benching guys, that sounds great. They can have a bunch of minor leaguers in the lineup.

Exactly. That's exactly what I'm saying.

Well, here's the thing.
You can't succeed doing the same thing, over and over again, and have it not succeed.
If the Flyers think they have good players, they can't think whatever Lavvy is doing is working with this collection of players. And, as well all know, it's easier to fire 1 man than it is to trade 20 some guys. |
