As far as I can find, there is no rule that prevents an active or injured player from serving as an assistant or even head coach. - Jsaquella

yeah, i think sometime between 79-82. forget who/when though. might have been why clarke gave up the C to bridgeman? - hammarby31
That's it. Bridgman was captain while Clarkie was asst coach |

Man, you don't have to convince me -- I wouldn't dress a guy who couldn't skate a regular shift for 10 minutes a night and score 6-10 goals.
If he can fight, fine. But if all you can do is hit and fight and agitate, the AHL's a good place for you until you can actually put the puck in the net. - AllInForFlyers
Yeah, people marvel at how Rinaldo can rack up the hits numbers that he does... it's because that fourth line is a possession black hole... they almost never have the puck... especially on the road when MTL is sneaking the Plekanec line out against them and CAR is sneaking the Staal lines out there... what are you going to do but hit? |

Hits can separate a player from the puck tho. and blocked shots have value. Winning hockey is not just about those things. they are just aspects of the game. - nastyflyergirl
Yeah, but what good does it do to separate a guy from the puck when if you shoot it, it's going to catch glass, and if you pass it, it's either behind the guy, in his skates, or two feet in front of him -- everywhere but on the tape?

Not saying that hitting and blocked shots are bad, just saying that being good at those things does not correlate to winning as well as puck possession. |

Two of the top teams in the League last year, Boston and LA were in the top 10 in the League in total hits. Need to come to grips with the fact that being a good physical and shot blocking team, contributes to winning. - MJL
They were also the best at puck possession. Not top-10. The best. |

That dismisses Rinaldo's obvious physical ability, and seems to state that his hitting game is simply because he's on the 4th line. |

So what does everyone think about Rinaldo playing on the 3rd line. I really like the kid. He might not be the most skilled offensively, but I think if you keep him off the 4th line, he could pot 15 goals and a bunch of assists. His skating is pheonomal. Right now when he has the puck he is dropping it into scoring areas, but no-one is there. Give him time to get chemistry and I think they will start going in. |

Anyone here have a clue as to what philosphy Berube has from a systems point of view?
I seriously hope its not the "we have to work harder" nonsense while still trying to fit the same squares into round holes.
I am not encouraged. I would rather have seen the entire staff gone and everything change.
Hockey systems are not rocket science.

Laviolette changed a number of things system wise from last year to this year. - MJL
I'll defer to you on this...it just looked exactly the same and that would be on the plyrs. |

The 4th line should be more of a possession, cycle it down low type of line IMO. Hits are fine but get the puck down low keep it simple. |

Like the scouting thing, I'm sure any coaching he's tasked with will be limited in nature and 'unofficial' for legal reasons. |

He would have to stay in the press box, I would imagine. And even then I don't think he could handle a full season |
